What should i do!?? my hamster keeps biting me

Ok my Hamster keeps on biting me i have left him and his cage alone for 2 months all i put my hand in there for is to get his food bowl and feed him and clean it so what should i do!!

I have a Teddy Bear hamster and he just loooves me, but hates my husband. We actually were both afraid of his giant teeth when we first got him and didn't touch him for a month. Then I started feeding him his food piece by piece through the wires of his cage. I'd give him a piece, let him smell my finger, give him another piece. Every time he'd try to bite I would just pull away because my hand was on the other side of the cage. He eventually learned that when he was hungry he could come to the top of his cage and I'd be there with food. When both he and I were comfortable I started picking him up and now he loves it. The thing is he hates my husband still and will bite him because he doesn't know him and doesn't recognize his scent. Make nice with your hamster and give it a chance to relate you with food (big positive with pets) and then you will be best friends!

It's possible that you hamster is very skiddish of humans. Why did you leave him alone for 2 months? Do you have other siblings that perhaps torment him? Maybe before you bought him he was tormented. It is most probably nothing personal towards you. That is the way some animals are. Just treat him with love and care, and he will live a happy life. Just have fun watching him in his cage. Maybe get him some special Hamster treats and see if that makes him happier.

Many Hamster bite, don't worry too much about it.

Hmm, your hamster might be a bit territorial. It might be the way you are picking him up. Let him reckognize your scent, let him smell your hand (like a dog). Until your hamster gains your trust, you will never be able to pick him/her up. Try not to make any sudden movements that might scare him.
