HELP!! next year i am going into the 8th grade (the highest grade at my middle school) and i am on the school newspaper and in a special before-school gifted singing group. both the newspaper and the singing group are directed by the same two people who will be in charge of casting and directing the school play. getting the lead in that is my dream. one problem: i hate being on the newspaper and in the singing group. will quitting both of those jeopardize my chances of getting the lead?? should i just stick it out for one more year or end it now? HELP!!

  1. Maybe you can draw a compromise ... pick which you dislike most (newspaper or singing).  Drop that one and tell the director that you needed to lose one of them so you could give your best effort on the musical.  This way you look good while dropping one of the things you hate.

  2. It shouldn't hurt to drop out. If they know you and like you at all it can boot your chances but dropping out can't effect you. If you feel it will effect you test your acting abilities and explain to them about how you can't do them because of conflicts with other things. Sticking to the special singing group can help because then they know you can sing. Newspaper most likely wont effect you.

  3. I am afraid quitting would jeopadize your chances. In such a case as yours the perception of the directors of you as someone willing to see a job through, or being dependable is all important. That still is no guarentee that you wil get the lead.
