What should i do to get inshape for the swim team?

I am going to be joining my highschools swim team and I would like to know what excersizes would help me be a better swimmer. I know you need to swim and I do, every night. But what else could I do, at home or at the gym?

  1. the best thing to do would be to just swim a lot before the tryouts. the last thing you want to do is lift too much and swim bad times


  2. hmm there's alot actually ill give you the basics but it's good you swim though,

    in the pool if you arent already you want to start doing laps and practicing the FREESTYLE stroke, that's the main stroke you need to know [there are 4 back,breast, and butterfly] the butterfly is the hardest so they'll try to teach you that one so start practicing good bouyancy and technique[movement of legs and placement of the fingers]

    outside of the pool called dryland you want to do running to work the legs out as well as some aerobic to get the muscles flexible which you will need when in the pool. also you want to do some upperbody work and especially w/ the arms.

  3. push ups to help your triceps and pecs, also sit-ups/crunches- you need to have strong abs
