  1. If you are buying a new baby Quaker that has been hand reared there is no reason you cant have him out with you and play with him on his first day at home.

Give him a few hours to adjust to his new surroundings, talk softly to him, and after a few hours open his cage and see if he wants to come out and talk to you. A handreared bird should know the 'step up' command so if he seems happy you can put your hand in front of him and gently nudge him to get him to step up onto your hand. You can play with him as long as he feels comfortable- start with short sessions and give him breaks in his cage, and gradually get longer as he becomes more confident. Quakers are very cheeky, outgoing birds so he should settle in in no time.

If you are buying a parent reared or avaiary Quaker it will take more time before he begins to feel safe around you. You should leave him for the first day or two, then open the cage and start to socialise with him.
