  1. I have to agree that 2 and the younger threes may be a little young to grasp the idea of a treasure hunt.  However, still possible.  Make it simple and straightforward.  (I don't know if this is for school or party.)

You can model a treasure hunt after Dora the Explorer.  (Kids at that age may know her and have watched that show.)  Have backpacks and rolled up maps, compass and binoculars.  Treasure map with pictures.  Create an obstacle course "To get to the treasure we need to go to OVER the mountain (couch).  Then UNDER the bridge (table), and AROUND the big rock (shelf.)"  Stress positional words. Take pictures and create a book.  Dora also uses stars in her show and you can include them in your theme.  Create a star sticker collage (Fine Motor).  Buy those foam hats and have kids add foam stars to them to wear.  Dora wears a bracelet.  You can make bracelets with foam beads (Igot them at the dollar store and I think Oriental Trading has them too or even Michaels.  Don't forget Spanish words and make the treasure a pinata.  Fill with stickers and other fun stuff.  Watch her show for more ideas!

  2. I think Bittersw says it all. Especially the hunt for things in sand. This is a young age so you have to be careful of the size of things the children hunt for.

  3. Sand tray-hide things in the sand such as silver foil coins, large beads, plastic jewellery...can have sieves and spades to dig them up! Then you can extend for older ones to talk about what they've found. maybe dress up as pirates!!!

Outdoors: make large coins-hide them outdoors and children have to go and find them and put them in basket to count up at the end. You can differentiate this for your own children as you know them better but with mine we did it in small groups at a time so that every child had chance and the older ones didnt just juimp in! When I did it with my 3 year olds we talked and positional language too!

Make treasure maps-they dont have to be real or perfect but the kids can draw routes to get to places-have either a piece of paper which has things like palm trees, X for treasure, a lake etc and the kids have to get from start to finish, or younger ones can just explore mark making.

Do a funday where its a LARGE treasure hunt and the parents come in to help-they can support them eg: they ahve a card and need to find one of each colour to 'win' and have small prizes for everyone who finishes it!

Also you can extend to have pirate ship and figures on the table or in sand tray, have dressing up box with pirate clothes, make swords, pirate hats etc!

  4. give them a chart of different colors and then taking them somewhere with an adult to go look for things of that color.

  5. too young for that. find another game.

    Edit

Involve the parents. I dont know, strip them and have them walk though paint over tyvek paper :) (they will stop, drop and roll)  Use your imagination.

  6. dance with them or show them how to dance if you known how to dance.

  7. try a scavenger hunt. make them look for toys, pictures, and anything easy that you can think of
