What should i do with my home phone system?

my dad called my cell and said that our home phone was busy. i gathered all the phones in he house and made sure they were all turned off. but the line is still busy. what should i do to turn it off?

go back around the house and disconnect all the cords from the jacks and unplug the cordless phones from the electrical outlets.  let them sit for 10 minutes.  then plug in any non-cordless phone first and see if you get dial tone.

the first place to check is the network interface. This is where the telco connects to the house. Unplug the cords that are looped out of the CO side to the customer side. Plug a telephone into the jack and look for dialtone. If you have dialtone, the problem is inside the house. If you still do not have dial tone, then the problem is the telco's and you need to call them.

If the problem is on your side, then go around and unplug each phone, one at a time, do not forget fax machines and computer modems (real bad offenders!).
