I Been watching this baby robin ever sence it was an egg, after all three eggs have been hatch the nest fell. I realized and picked it up and put the baby in the nest the mother came back and it was every happy. Then few days later the nest fell again and i have been watching the nest for 2 days but no sign of mother coming back so i started to feed it but i lack of when i have to feed it also i don't think i can keep feeding the baby 24/7 unless i bring it inside the house, but i don't watch to do that if the mother is planning on comming back what should i do.

(Baby's are still young not feathered yet)

  1. Ok here is the deal, DON'T take it to the pet store. If there is a rescue that would be a good idea. Most pet store employees are just minimally trained, and the types of birds they deal with are totally different than wild birds. If they are abandoned your best bet is to keep it at around 90 degrees F under a light, DON'T overheat it. You can feed it a canned meat based dog food. Feed it at least every 3 hours. The odds of it surviving either way are very slim, don't be too upset if it doesn't make it. Oh and one more thing, Most birds have a very poor sense of smell, including robins. If the baby has been there for 2 days and nights and is still alive, she is still feeding it.

  2. they were probably abandoned. many birds, once their eggs or babies have been exposed to other animals, especially humans, will abandon the nest. The nest being knocked over could have been the mother doing it believe it or not.

Either that, or the mother died (caught by a cat while getting food etc.). Either way, what to do with them? Pet store might have a solution for you

  3. when u go to feed the chicks, see if there crops are full, if not call the vet for advice.   be patient, she may return

  4. Keep feeding it outside. I would do it for week. If she doesn't return, then bring it inside. Makes sure nest is secure so no cats or pedators move in for the kill.

  5. If you touch the baby bird the mother won't take care of it no more because they have the smell of you on them. So the mother bird wont come back to take care of it. So you will have to find a way to take care of them or else they have a good chance of dying.

  6. take it to a pet store

  7. Maybe you can get a hold of an animal rehabber that can give advice and will maybe take them.........

  8. Are you SURE the mother is not feeding this baby.  Unless you watch the nest 24/7 you would not really know.  You need to find a hidden spot where you can see the nest but the mother bird (if tending to the nest) cannot see you.  You would be considered a predator and she will not come to feed with a predator watching.  Watch the nest CONTINUALLY..this is the only way to know if she is coming.  Visits to feed can be quick and infrequent so don't miss them.  ONLY if you are postive the mother has abandoned the nest..you need to get these birds to a local wildlife rehab for their best chance of survival.  Look here for one near you:

Also, keep in mind, it would be illegal for you to raise these birds on your own, and they would not survive in the wild without an expert teaching them foraging skills they would usually learn from their parents. Also, birds CANNOT smell well and will not abandon a chick that has been touched by a human..just an old wives tale.
