my high school is having a volleyball camp && tryouts this upcoming week. i plan on attending the camp but i'm kind of nervous about the tryouts because i have little stamina. i have played volleyball before && the coaches said i was good & have a lot of potential. i'm also really tall (5'9) for my age && grade (entering freshmen). what do you usually do at tryouts??? how can i still impress the coaches with my skills even though i have little stamina. i want to show them i'm still a hardworking player && i am willing to work on my endurance problem. will my stamina be a problem?? what will we do at tryouts???

  1. Give it your best shot.  It's nice that you recognize you weakness.  Most people have problems acknowledging them.  AS for running, there's not much you can do but push through it.  I'm not a good runner either but that hasn't stopped me from vball and bball.  Just pick someone out who is slightly faster than you are and try to beat her.  Keep showing the coaches you're willing to get better and do somethings outside of the camp and try outs on your own. It might sound stupid but every time you do a drill, give yourself a compliment.  If you work harder then everyone else whose strength is running you show the coaches a lot about your commitment to the team.

USe your hieght to your advantage.  Get up there  on the blocks and spike that ball down.  Go for each and every ball and call for it louderly.  If you scrimmage in try outs like I did, call when the serve is coming and call for the ball to be set to you so you can slam in it their faces!  Have fun and show the coaches you cal to play some vball!  DOn't let a mistake mess up the rest of the try outs.  If a teammate messes up tell them, "You got it next time. Nice try!" and give the a slap on the back.m  Your goal is to be the loudest most enthusiastic player there, just try to stay off the border of being annoying.  Good Luck!

  2. I will "leak" you a few tips:

Try out is just something for all inquiries, but they actually select players during camp time. You show them what you have at the camp.

Once you have had a good camp time, all you need to do is to follow direction at the tryout and get ready to make the team.

With your 5'9", and skills, and "potential", there is nothing that you need to worry about.

  3. they'll like your height.  Just make sure youre cordinated and can hit the ball, set it good, and block good.

  4. Stamina should not be much of a problem, for voleyball. But if your worried about it then start jogging, and runnong before camp and tryouts start.

  5. i think you just go all out at tryouts and you should make it...just work on your stamina if you think that its a problem....run more and longer every day, if volleyball is just starting im sure the team will do some running to get into some kind of shape and thats a start on your endurance problem, but in the game of volleyball there isn't too much running i don't think....if i recall

  6. it really depends on the coach.

my coach makes us run our butts off.

but most treat it as actual tryout & finish thinking about whos playing where and who works well together. if theres someone new, theyll test them out.

  7. i have the same problem...you will have to run b/c coaches just love to make us run...but just pace yourself so you don't pass out or something...and focus on your skills and doing really well don't worry so much about the conditioning....

  8. booty shorts

  9. You sound really coachable, which is good, you acknowledge you have a stamina problem, and that's the first step. As it's kind of late to start working on the stamina thing, go in there and show them what you've got. If you have to do a lot of running, "take it with a grain of salt" and do it, push yourself. Otherwise, you should have no problem, you've already played and you're really tall, and they will like that! Many taller people assume they're better and lack co-ordination and focus, but you seem to be really trying :) Best of luck!

  10. I think you should expect flying volleyballs hitting you.

    but have fun!

just remember::so what if you have a bruise on your head the size of texas,it could be worse!

  11. try ur best and just b urself.....the real serious players are affluent and go to traveling teams--the are also very greedy and selfish...u might like track and field... u can work on ur stamina thru training but maybe u can b a high jumper...GL

  12. Practice bunting the ball a ton because that is one thing they will drill you on. and Serving. also if you have a bike then ride it it will really help your legs get in shape.

P.S don't worry its not a death sentance. Also make sure you go to the camp, it will show the coach you are in it to win it.

Good luck hope my advice helps you

  13. Even if you aren't the best player all a coach really wants to see is that you are working hard and you really want to be there. If you give it your all and do what the coach says they should be happy.  During tryout you will probably go through hitting, digging, serves, and other basic volleyball maneuvers, depending on the level you play. You should build up your stamina for the future, but it shouldn't be a big problem just for tryouts.

  14. expect to run..its the number 1 method of conditioning. always switch partners when needed.. coaches will be impressed that u r able to get along with other people on ur team. stamina might be a problem for running. keep water with u and maybe a power bar. this will boost ur energy level. u will obviously do drills and work on serves. as far as the actual vb is concerned.. theres nothing to worry about if ur coaches sed ur good:) finally stay positive and dont worry!
