I think it depends on how close you are to them, how well you know them, etc.  If you are close, then I would try to get them something special.  Not so close?  Then get them something off of their registery, or the old stand-by is always great - cash!!!

I certainly agree with the idea of cash.  It is a very practical gift, and you can spend as much or as little as you wish.  And, you can buy a very nice card to put the present inside, and write something very very special to them.  Now, if you would rather not give cash, then I believe everyone likes one of those new television sets that are flat screened and more light weight.  They seem to be much better than the older heavier clunkier televisions.  You can buy them one for their living room or one for their bedroom if they already have a nice living room TV.
