  1. The pay isn't that great but its rewarding to know that you are making a difference in a childs life. I'm a sub and I like working with the younger kids like 3rd grade and under. The older ones can be hard to get along with!

  2. since i am in a different country (suadi arabia) i don't know about your country's regulations...but i can share with you about the ideas of teaching:

    1. when you get the start you have to know that teaching is not an easy task so don't thing that your future students will be smart enough to know the matter you are dealing with just as much as you do.

    3. always check their information and don't ask them if they understand or not.

    4. give them more written work.

    5. love your children if you want them to follow you.

    5. never betray your students by forgetting about their assingments corrections and feedback.

    6. learn how to deal with frustrated students by taking at least one course in any private institute.

  3. kids r annoying

  4. The pay isn't great.  There is no such thing as three months off in the summer.  You don't have any schedule flexibility.

It's a fun job where you can continue to learn new things thru out your career.

  5. how do disapline kids when they are bad.and that at times it can be hard but you will get through it.

  6. That you'll always have homework to do after school (prepare to do constant correcting, cutting, research and gathering). Some teachers I know do most of their work at home - which includes weekends.

  7. That just because you like kids doesn't mean you'll like teaching....it's still a job and it's hard  work no matter who says it's not.

  8. kids can be brats and stink.

  9. Excellent answer, cap!

You will work in the summer

You will have to be a coach or advisor

You will be up at 5am and home late, sometimes past 8pm and still have papers to correct

Parents will call you over the summer and will call you at home if you are not unlisted

Parents will think they can tell you how much you should make because they pay your salary

Have a stash of $1 bills for the kids who are poor and don't have money for lunch but who are too proud to sign up for the free lunch program

Keep candy on hand for your diabetic students in case of an emergency

If you give treats to students, consider those with food allergies

Have a rule for yourself about how much work you will do at home, such as correct papers for 90 minutes only.  You could do this job 24 hours a day and still never finish everything.

Make time for yourself or you will burn out in 3 years.

  10. 1.  Avoid the politics of the teacher's lounge.

    2.  All parents believe their child is the next Newton, Einstein, or Da Vinci and that he or she "would never do something like that!"

    3.  You will work nights and weekends.

    4.  You will spend a lot of your own money on supplies.

    5.  As much as you want to, there will always be some that you can't fix...and it will break your heart to know you can't.

    6.  There will be a student that will make you cry...don't do it in front of the class.

    7.  Kids are like predators and can smell fear, so put on a good show even in you are shaking in your boots.

    8.  It is a really great job and you will love it...even on days when you want to quit.

    Good luck.  =]

  11. Beware of faculty room politics!

If you are not a politically correct left leaning mindless kool aid drinker you will never get very far in public education.

  12. It is not just about the students.  The schools that I have taught at act as though the parents are customers and the customer is always right.  You need to be prepared to deal with "customer service".
