  1. you want to buy a camera with a high mega pixel. like try 8.0 mega pixel. they take better pictures. you have to buy a memory card for your camera so it depends on what size memory card by how many pictures you plan on taking.

  2. Most point and shoot cameras are 3X and 4X optical zoom.  Some are 6X, 10X optical zoom and more. More zoom, more money. Most cameras today are 5, 6 or 7 megapixels. Unless you do a lot of enlarging 5 through 7 megapixels is really enough.

For me an important feature is a camera that has an image stabilizer for shaky hands. If you just want to take pictures on occasion and not be bothered fiddling around with shutter speeds/apertures then one with no manual controls is fine. If you find that you'd like to learn more about photography, you'll need a camera with manual settings along with just leaving on auto.

You can get by on a $115- camera but one with an image stabilizer plus manual settings will start about $150-

Canon makes cameras for all budgets I find. Ones with image stabilizer and manual controls are the Canon PowerShot A590 IS and Canon PowerShot A720 IS.

No matter what camera you buy you will need to purchase a memory card that holds the photos. Usually $20 to $30-
