  1. I have two friends that graduated from UCLA film school and both have worked in the industry for about 25 years. But that school may not be an option for you.

You could go for a drama major but that's not a guarantee - have you thought about radio/t.v. major? That way you could go for a degree in something sort of in the lines of acting/writing, but you could join some acting workshops and get involved on a local level with theatre, too. Then see where it all leads you. DO NOT do something that you'll end up hating just because everyone thinks you "should." Like political science, business, etc. It just may not be for you. Go for your passion and make it happen...

  2. There's a plethora of majors out there in the arts.  You need to do your own research on college websites and you'll soon get an idea what's offered where.

Speaking from experience in the arts, LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE.   Don't take on $30,000+ in school debts just to get out and struggle to find a job paying $20,000/year.  Expect your standard of living will be significantly lower than everyone else unless you're extraordinary in what you do.

  3. Majoring in Theater right now.

I'd say go for a liberal arts education and focus your electives towards the performing arts. You might do really well with a general theater major (vs. an emphasis in, say, directing) where you could take both scriptwriting and Acting I, II, and III and both would count to your major. You could then either minor in music (if it's a good music program, they'll want all of your time, so don't double major with theater AND music if you can help it) or communications, which is a major that covers media, filmography, screenwriting, etc.

Everything depends on the school. Find three that you like and visit them. Tell them what you want to do. If they say "yeah, but what do you REALLY want to do?", they're not serious about their performing arts programs. A good school will help you focus. Choose the one that fosters your dreams the best.

    Cheers

  4. Most colleges/universities these days offer majors in theater arts, and I know for a fact there are music majors available (I had some friends major in it). As for writing, I'd suggest English, Communications, or Journalism. My ex-sis-in-law, however, majored in Creative Writing at a small college in Tucson, Arizona.  You would just have to check out the websites of the schools you are interested in. For example, Penn State Univ. website is www.psu.edu .

  5. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT MOST LIBERAL ARTS MAJORS  (BA) REQUIRE A LOT OF WRITING TO GRADUATE. SO YOU COULD MAJOR/MINOR ( OR DOUBLE MAJOR)  IN  COMMUNICATIONS

( FILM/RADIO/TV) AND ALMOST ANYTHING ELSE - JOURNALISM, MARKETING, BUSINESS,(- A GOOD IDEA ACTUALLY) PSYCHOLOGY - AS WRITING WILL BE A PART OF ALL OF THOSE. I DONT THINK IT WOULD BE YOUR BEST INTEREST TO MAJOR IN THEATER AND COMMUNICATIONS - PICK SOMETHING ELSE  THAT WILL GIVE YOU ADDITIONAL WORK SKILLS AS YOU CAN ALWAYS AUDITION FOR THE SHOWS ANYWAY.  THAT'S WHAT I DID - I WASN'T A THEATER MAJOR - BUT I GOT CAST IN EVERY SINGLE SHOW! IT WAS A BLAST!

    GOOD LUCK!

  6. Just major in both my sis did and it totaly worked out for her she did both and it was great she writes her own scrpits
