I want to start playing one of those kinds of guitars, but i don't know which one. I prefer to be a leading player, but I like the sound of the bass guitar. Also, my friend is trying to get me and another one of his friends into a band, and he wants to be playing electric guitar, but he doesn't have one. I don't know whether or not to get a bass like he says or to get a guitar and make him play bass. Can anyone can help me with my situation?

  1. If you really want to play lead guitar, then play lead guitar.

But if you are really interested in being in a band and becoming a proffessional musician, be a bassist.  There's always guitarist, and not enough bassists.

  2. i say go with electric guitar........i just got my first one 2 days ago......i absolutly love it!!! its great!!          you shouldnt start with bass because usually people who already know how to play the electric learn the bass. :)

  3. if you wanna be a leading player the best choice is the electric guitar ,besides you're gonna hear the bass either way..lol

as for your friend you both can play the electric and find someone eles to play bass...it sound really good wen theres two electric guitars playing.=]

  4. Dude, play what feels right. Pick up a guitar fool around with it for a while, and then do the same with a bass. You can go to your local Guitar Center. I tested Basses and amps for like 2 hours once and was never bothered. As for wanting to be a leading player download some Marcus Miller(bassist) he is definitely the leading player in all his songs. Also i don't know if your into metal, but check out Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. He's one of those bassists that if he didn't play the songs would sound completely different, so bass bass is equally as important as guitar if not more. I tried playing electric guitar and it wasn't for me, but you should play what feels right.

If you choose bass, I would suggest a Ibanez as your first. Like a BTB or an SR series.

    Good Luck

  5. Never start with anything electric, it's fake arts!

  6. Hi Gamerz

Don;t play any with that attitude and I am not being funny. Music is an art and you really have to love your instrument so that you can devote your energy to it.

Listen to your heart and choose the intrument that YOU love and not an instrument, to fill in the gap of  a band.

Bass players are harder to come by and if you a a 50 - 50 choice to make, then that is different. Go for the bass because you are sure to find work now and in the future.

Guitar players ??? Their are 100 or more guitar players to 1 bass player. But, don't learn an instrument for the sake of just playing it because you will never get good at it.

I play piano for 15 yrs as well as bass but am not a real bass player. My second love is my guitar.

  7. i thin you should play bass guitar. bass also plays some of the lead especially the adlib. it not because the electric guitar shows more lead then you should go for the electric guitar, but bass is also nice. the bass gives a deep sound of the music. think about a music without a bass, that would be so empty...it sucks... bass is nice...

  8. play bass guitar. think about it, the bass guitar gives out the "vibe" to the audience. that "vibe'' is what makes them start to dance and such. a band isn't good enough without a bass guitar, they're THAT important

  9. I PLAY BASS. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY GUITARISTS, AND A LOT OF GUITARISTS ARE COCKY AND ATTENTION WANTERS. GO FOR BASS. THERE ARE 4-13 STRING BASSES, AND BASS IS (IN YOUR OPINION) BETTER SOUNDING. I AM A LEAD BASSIST/SINGER. OUR GUITAR IS BACKGROUND. DON'T LISTEN TO LOSERS SAYING BASS IS EASIER, CAUSE IT'S EQUALLY AS HARD. GO FOR BASS. YOU CAN BE LEAD LIKE ME, LES CLAYPOOL, AND MANY OTHERS. WE DON'T NEED EVERYONE ON THIS PLANET TO PLAY GUITAR. AND START WITH A 4 OR 5 STRING BASS.

THERE IS 1 WAY TO PLAY GUITAR:

    PICKING

THERE ARE MANY WAYS FOR A BASS:

    PICKING

    PLUCKING

    SLAPPING

    POPPING

    FINGER SLAPPING

    TAPPING (aka double tap)

    ETC.

    GO BASS!!!

  10. It all deepens on whether or not you have a lot of time and whether or not you n anything about music if you want to spend the time electric gives you the better chance to be a leader but if can easily take over a year to lear while on the other hand bass guitar only takes a month to learn well and is a lot easier to perfect also solos on bass are awesome hope this helped

  11. I myself am a bass guitar player, so I guess I'm a little biased. Guitar players usually get the most attention, but there's less competition since more people choose to play guitar over bass. I have heard, though, that it's best to start on guitar, and then learn bass once you get the hang of it. They say it's easier to switch from guitar to bass than from bass to guitar. Honestly, just learn whichever one you like most!

  12. Guitar players are a dime a dozen.  Great bass players are awesome, and we (musicians) are always looking for them!  Some of my biggest heros are bassists: Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Scott LaFaro, Cliff Burton, Ray Brown.  Talk about a wide range or virtuosity!

  13. get the bass. 6 string guitar is overrated. there's almost as many guitarists out there as there are people in china. if you pick up the bass, you'll be one of the few. and if you get good, you can get in a band at almost any time.

bass may only have 4 strings, but doesn't mean it's easier than guitar. there are 6 string basses out there...

most bass players can usually pick up a guitar and play it, guitarists can't just pick up a bass and play.

  14. Play the instrument that you want to learn the most.  Plain and simple. If you start to learn to play an instrument because someone says you need to, and have no real desire to play that instrument, chances are its going to be a dust collector.

By picking up an instrument you want to learn, chances are you will succeed much faster, practice more, and learn to love music and play another instrument down the road.

Please, dont be swayed by someone saying..."You have to learn this first."  Makes no difference as long as you have the desire and are willing to practice. And by the way.... basses have 4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12 or 13 strings.  Not just limited to 4 strings.  If you do choose bass, I dont recommend learning on anything higher than a 5 string to start.  The necks get VERY huge on these others, and  good technique for a beginner would be kind of hard to do on some of these basses.
