  1. Well, it depends on what you are doing musically, if you are marching, then I would reccomend the mellophone, it's a lot of fun to play, and you usually get very interesting counter melodies.

If you are playing in a concert setting, then you could look into the cornet again, since you have experience. It's all up to you really. Don't choose an instrument becasue it's easiest though, choose an instrument because you like it.

  2. if u can play reg. bass cl. (which must be the hard one to him) whats the point of playin plar bass cl. (which must be the easier version)

  3. Every marching band needs lots of tubas. All my directors stress that to us, because they're the base of the music. Or drumline, the heartbeat of the band. They're both really fun. :)

  4. Hi there,

Since there is very much competition in high school, both in the instrument sections as well as in UIL competition,  I would be advising you to play the instrument you have the most experience with and which is going to be easier to develop more technical skills with, which is the one you have played the longest... Clarinet.

I would start with it to begin with for sure.    It is going to be lighter weight and easier to carry on the marching field... and the case, itself,  is definately easier to carry and it takes so much less room to store.  Think about having to lug that big instrument home every day to practice your marching music or what is assigned for chair tests.

When marching season is over,  if you choose to play bass clarinet in concert season, I guess you could do that... but still,  concert season includes Solo and Ensemble....  you have to take it home every day to practice.

It is, of course your decision so do choose what is going to be good for you...  but I would also consider what is going to be more inconvenient because if it were to much of a bother,  I might decide that all of the trouble could keep me from practicing as much as I should.

    Thanks for reading

    And good luck :))
