  1. i took mine in PA several years ago... here's a basic overview of what I had to do:

first, he had me get in the car and start it. (put your seatbelt on before you start the car!)  and then he walked around the car while he had me turn on my turn signals, lights, high beams, low beams, emergency fourways, and wipers.

then he got into the car with me, and had me back out of the space and drive to a red light to exit the street.  I drove a few blocks and ended up back at the DMV.  then I drove outback and parallel parked.  after i was in the space, i had to put my car in park, put on the ebrake, and turn the car off.  then i had to restart the car and pull out of the space.  don't forget to use your turn signals when parking and pulling out.  then I had to drive back to the front of the building and park the car.

and then i got my picture taken and was handed my license.

    good luck!

  2. First off, make sure your seat belt is on. (I've heard a pretty stupid story about this guy failing the test because he didn't put on his seat belt-TWICE!). Make sure you know the hand sign of turning left, right, and stop.

When driving, make sure  you drive the speed limit or a little slower. When the light turns yellow, start slowing down and brake smoothly to keep it on the safe side. When the lights turn green look right, left, and forward. (Don't just look with your eyes, slightly turn your head so the test scorer knows you looked). This also applies to stop signs and such. If you're already used to driving, the rest is pretty straight forward. Don't be nervous, it's not that bad. Good luck.

  3. The inspector tried to keep up a conversation with me.  I think he was seeing how easily distracted I was.

Can you make a T-turn?  I didn't even know what it was, but when the inspector explained it to me I had no problem.  But it is one of the more difficult basic skills.

I was really dreading parallel parking, backing in to a parking space.  The space in the DMV parking lot was big enough for an 18-wheeler.  No problem.

Watch your speed!  Look ALL AROUND you when making a turn, pulling into a driveway, crossing an intersection, anything like that.

  4. I don't know what your state requires, but practice, the 3 point or t turn, parallel parking, I think within 3"(better check on that one) from the curb. remember your seatbelt and to wait til the instructor is buckled in. They could be testing you, you never know so if he/she don't buckle immediately ask them to do so(happened to me) Know where all controls are and how to operate them. Keep both hands on the wheel. Make complete stops at stop signs. Look both ways and back again. When I took my test I did so on a course and had to keep a constant 25mph speed while weaving in and out of cones. I failed the course and finally passed in another county on a regular road test. Much easier. Good luck!
