  1. A Towel

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on the subject of towels. A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough. More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc, etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

I know your going to hospital not hitch hiking, but its worth taking a towel. Oreferably from m&s

  3. I can tell you what I have in mine so far, I was actually wondering the same thing...

    So far I've packed:

    Sanitary Pads

    Moisturizer

    Lip balm

    Socks, underwear, bras, clothes, etc

    Toothbrush, toothpaste

    Deodorant

Baby clothes, bibs, receiving blankets .. and so on

    Camera with charged batteries.

That's all I can think of off of the top of my head. Hope it helps.

  4. A nightgown or pjs to wear after.  Something to go home in for you (maternity clothes) and baby.  Snacks for your other half during labor (most hospitals won't let you eat during labor) Magazines.  Also, bring a couple of onesies for the baby because some hospitals, although not all, use these little flimsy paper shirts on the baby.  Some makeup and a brush because people will be taking lots of family photos.   Also bring shampoo and body wash because they don't supply that.

  5. When i toured the labour ward at my hospital they gave us lists

    What u should bring:

    Toiletries (mom and baby)

    Sleep wear

    One packet of disposable nappies

    Two packets of sanitary towels

    Clothes for baby on discharge

    Nipple cream e.g lansinoh, sanaderm

    Black pen- for forms

The hospital im going to is in south africa, im not sure if ur hospital provides the following mine does but if urs doesnt then bring the following aswell:

    1 pack nappies

    Wet wipes

    1 pack sanitary towels

Small bottle of surgical spirits (cord cleaning)

    1 small roll cotton wool

    Aqueous cream

    Elizabeth Annes Shampoo

    2 disposable panties for mom

Thats what the hospital list said, the 2nd list is what my hospital supplys, but thats in South africa. If ur hospital doesnt provide it then bring it along as well as the 1st list.

These are things the elizabeth anne booklet says

    Labour bag:

Big loose fitting tshirt for comfortable labouring

    Disposable panties

    Toiletries and 2 face clothes

Elizabeth annes petroleum jelly or lip balm

    Natural sponge

    Glucose sweets

Warm socks- your feet get cold in labour

    Camera

    Soothing music

High energy drinks or diluted fruit juices

Water spray to cool u down

    T.E.N.S machine (if required)

Anything to make u comfortable for labour, eg ur own pillow, stress ball, birthing ball, etc

    Mirror

Hair accessories to tie hair up

I have no idea what a T.E.N.S machine is.

    Hospital bag:

    Sleep shirts,slippers,gown and comfortable tracksuits

    Toiletries

Elizabeth annes mother love nipple cream

    Feeding/breast pads

    Maternity pads

    Cell phone

    List of telephone numbers

    Going home bag:

For baby: baby gro, booties, nappies, receiving blanket and vest

For you: loose fitting maternity clothes you will still look pregnant.

Whoever fetches you must Remember to bring the car seat

    Hope i have helped

  6. i'm sure everybody has some variation but i looked up quite a few lists on the internet and just compiled a list based on what i thought would be helpful to me.

    here's my list:

    camera and charger

    phone charger.

    fragrance free lotion and massager

the baby book so i can write down my first "mom" stuff while it's still fresh in my mind.

4 copies of our birthplan along with our birth book (we're doing natural drug free)

socks, slippers, a lightweight robe, 2 gowns with an opening in the front. 2 nursing bras and 2 sports bras, breast pads, lansinoh breast creme.

a pack of underwear i don't mind getting ruined and pads to wear with them.

toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, shampoo and conditioner, bar soap and scrubby.

    hair rubberbands, hair dryer.

    extra pillows (hospital pillows suck)

    chap stick.

a change of clothes for my husband to wear as well as something for him to sleep in.

for the baby: diapers (we're doing 7th generation so won't be using the ones the hospital provides) 3 onezies, socks, a cap and some receiving blankets plus a carseat installed in the car.

  7. soph has a good list. I'd add your own pillow (always more comfortable), slippers or flip-flops, and snack foods you enjoy. The hospital will provide sanitary pads so you may want to leave those out.

  8. Gown with button down front, nursing bra with pads, robe, slippers, toothbrush and paste, shampoo, conditioner and hair brush, maybe some body lotion (unscented). Clothes to leave the hospital in.Don't bother with makeup, you'll be too tired and sore to care about that! For baby's clothes, a diaper, a onsie, a pair of pjs, socks and a cap. Also a light blanket and a heavy one too, just in case its cold.

  9. your own sanitary napkins

                  underwear

                  nursing bra if breastfeeding

                  robe

                  socks(maybe slippers too)

                  hairbrush&comb

                  toothbrush&toothpaste

                  deodorant,shampoo,soap

                  outfit to go home in

babies outfit to go home in

                  extra camera

                  list of people to call
