for some complicated reasons i don't want people to know where i'm from. but almost everyone i meet asks me where i'm from since i've got a distinctive accent and i'm mixed race. i don't feel comfortable telling a lie but i can't be bothered to explain why i don't want to tell either. so what should i say? thanks

  1. It's just human nature to be curious and ask "Where are you from", when you hear an accent. If you don't want to tell someone where you're from, just tell them "I'd rather not say" or, "I'm not a liberty to tell you, sorry". Interestingly, you've already told everyone where you're from.

  2. Just say jokingly "If I tell you, I'd have to kill you" and quickly move along.

  3. Just explain that you would rather not share that information but anyway if someone judges you on where your from or on your accent then there not worth knowing. I wouldn't judge u !!!

  4. I have this issue! I was born in the West, raised in the south, and my parents are from up North. SO I have 3 different accents in my mixture and people comment on it all the time! I get self concious sometimes but then I realize those people are just being ignorant. So, when people ask me where I am from, I just tell them where I've spent the majority of my time (in the south) and leave it at that.

  5. I would just say this lovely earth and drop it. You should not have to explain to anyone where you are from or race. If they persist I would just turn the table and ask them where they are from or give them the real smart *** answer about when a man and a woman.....

  6. yeah. i get it all the time. im in the same plight as you. usually, i would just laugh it off and say that im from (the country that im from).

it's quite effective. But after that, they'd probable ask, then why do you have an accent like that?? then, i'd say im mixed. and i probably got it from my mother.

  7. I would probably just change the subject, ex "So where are you from"

All over, so did you see... football, Eastenders, naked running girls etc

  8. What I say is " A little bit of everywhere" and laugh. I don't really like people knowing too much about me at all (the name Nunya Business should have given that away)

  9. You could say jokingly "I'm from my parents (or mother)" and then move on quickly , or just say I'm from the past, it's a long story and say your sensitive about it most people will leave it at that.Don't ever be ashamed of where you're from, but if you have your reasons I understand.

  10. Where do you live? Just say that you are from there. Unless it's the USA, in which case you should say that you are from Canada.

If your accent is really strong, say that you are from Earth. If people keep asking after that, they are probably people you don't want to know anyway, so just ignore them.

  11. Make a joke of the question and say you are from around here, Australia

  12. Just say your an aussie

    we are so multicultural

  13. You should not be ashamed of where you come from .. there is no reason but if you don't want to tell them.. then just say.. ''well obviously not from Australia'' Some other continent.. but the same planet as you.. if you guess right I will let you know..

  14. Hey there, without coming across to strong and awkward, just say, "oh long story, I'll share it with you another time", and then leave it at that, and change the subject.

Good Luck with that, some people are merely curious, and probably don't mean any harm, they just most likely love your accent.

    Have a good night.

    Minny :-)

  15. Why not get them to talk about where they are from? Most people like to answer questions about themselves, so maybe that would be a way to not talk about where you are from. I also have a heavy accent, and some people ask me where I am from, I ask them where they are from and it gets me off the hook.
