Is it always "nothing" or are people looking for an individual response?

  1. I feel odd and like a lier when I say "nothing"..coz there's always something going on in anyone's life....and everyone is busy in some way or other. So 'nothing' doesn't sound right to me personally.

So when someone says "what's up", I just say "hey..how are you?" And then we continue the conversation and either I let the person know what's going on, or the person asks more specifically what's going on and what am busy with.

  2. "nothing" works, followed by "whats up with you". Nobody really gives a rat's behind whats up in your life, they're just giving you a nod of recognition.

  3. the sky

    your mom

    the ceiling

  4. personally i think it's a stupid inpersonal question, tell them to go to h**l, that's what i do... my friends know i'm joking, other people either ask questions or leave me alone

  5. "whats up with you"

    thats what i say

  6. "What's up" has become a greeting, like "Hello." The asker is not looking for a specific response.

I did work with a lady who if you asked her "what's up?" would answer "Heaven." People quit asking her PDQ.

  7. I think it comes from people who are bored or lacking good social skills. It might be better to just say "whaddda u mean?"

  8. haha i hate when people ask me this. if i dont like them i'll give them a detailed response of what is actually up, but if it's a stranger or something i usually say "not much, you?" or  WASSAAAAAAAP.

  9. Norm Peterson from Cheers made a career out of answering the question "What's up?"

    .

    "The temperature under my collar".

    "My blood pressure".

    "The corners of my mouth".

    "My blood-alcohol level. "

    "The warranty on my liver."

    Variations:

    "What are you up to?

My ideal weight... if I were 11 feet tall."

    "What's new?

Terrorists. They've taken over my stomach & they're demanding beer."

  10. I think I'm the only person that actually says that I'm doing. If I'm really not doing anything I just say "chillin" or "postin".

  11. My socks

  12. I work with a lot of younger people in their 20s, and this greeting  seems to have replaced "hello".  I usually just respond with......"hello", or I have actually gone as far as saying.......".Wat up??!!"  If someone that I know well and consider a close aquaintance or friend asks me this, I will usually clue them in to how my week or day is going.  It all depends on how close you are to the other person.

  13. just say "aye wasuup"

  14. this question can mean about 15 different things at least..  it's like asking how are you or something - it can be a common greeting or they really want to know..  it's really a poor question .  I'd assume it's a greeting.. but you can always ask them to ask you more specific questions or ask them what they really want to know.  Sometimes you can ask them how much time they have...

  15. Nothin. Just chillin

  16. you tell them whats up....Duh. :-3

  17. I mumble nothing and the person always mishears me and answers a question I didn't ask.
