She knows how to sit, down, stay (she has a VERY solid stay), heel, high five, under (go under my legs), peekaboo (go on my legs from behind and sit between them and look up at me. just for fun. its cute = ]), she can also wroll over, and slide (really its crawl but i want to teach her the command crawl to come forward with her butt in the air). Oh and she can spin and back up,touch (my hand), sit before she crosses the road, leave it (treats), find it (toys under the sand or treats in the grass), and she stays close off leash- no runaway problems.

She's very smart and i love to show her off but i always want to show her off a bit more. I'd like to teach her some more obedience commands as well as cute tricks.

So i just wanted to see what people think i should teach her (and if you know how, please share! it would be really helpful.)

By the way, her name is Lola and she just turned a year old. She learns things extremely fast, were up for anything challenging or whatever

  1. Sit pretty is easy to teach. Hold a treat over the dog's head while she is sitting and she will naturally rear up to get it. I also love the high five- an air borne giving of the paw and play dead. Still working on play dead.....

  2. sit pretty/ beg. its when they sit with their paws in the air. I aslo taught my dog spin where she spins in a circle. that ones her fav and she loves doing it.

  3. Emergency drop down and stay...just in case she ends up on the other side of a busy street. You wouldn't want to her to come running to you in that instance.

You might want to check out your local dog training schools or clubs. Ours has a silly pet tricks course which sounds like fun.

If she likes to fetch and play with balls she would love a sport called flyball.

Agility is a lot of fun and a great chance to show her off.

Also, search youtube for some cute and funny ideas.

A lot of the time the dog's personality and interactions with you will help discover unique tricks...I used to spit ice cubes out of my mouth for my German Shepherd to catch. It was hilarious and she loved it!

  4. Teach her to go get stuff- your phone, your shoes, your socks.

Start teaching her with a treat to "take it" [eat the treat]. Progress to getting her to take a different object from your hand [take the phone/socks/ect.], and then get her to take them as you throw them, then take them as you instruct her too.

Shepherds are smart, she'll pick up on it.
