My nasty little budgie(that i stiull love) raped the female quail in his aviary and has now pecked the head of my male quail. He is lethargic and in shock and the skin on his head is bleeding raw. I am taking an animal course which is a lead up to vet nursing but have not kearned about birds yet and my next class isnt for three days. Im broke from tafe fees so cant take my little lad to the vets at the moment. I have heard that you cant put dettol on animals and am unsure what to use to clean his wound. If anyone geniunely knows then could they please tell me? Thankyou.

  1. I have never heard of dettol, but there's a thing we sell in the US called Corona cream.  It's mostly marketed towards horse owners as an antiseptic but it works for any animals.

The other option is a dab of neosporin.

More importantly - if you can get your hands on an over-the-counter broad spectrum antibiotic (like tetracycline for birds, I know PetSmart sells it) it will help any infection from spreading inwardly to the bird.

For the lethargy - offer it something with electrolytes like gatorade or pedialyte (you can dip your finger in it, and touch it to your budgie's beak so it dribbles in).

    Hope that helps.
