What should i wear to a formal wedding?

I am invited to a friends wedding. It is formal and adults only, they are also having brunch the next day. I've only beed to family and smaller gathering weddings in past. This one is going to have over 300 people. I jsut dont know what to wear! Any suggestions? Thanks

Well formal generally indicates a long/floor length dress.  If you are wanting long sleeves then you can just add a jacket to any pretty dress - but here are some options you may like that would be quite suitable for a wedding...

Just remember - NO WHITE (or any shades of off-white).  Try and add some colour to any black you wear - it is an old-fashioned idea, but many people still see black as a mourning colour and you should be rejoicing at a wedding!

I wore a flowery dress to my friend's wedding yesterday.  It wasn't as bit, but it was formal.  Any type of dress would work though, and think about if you would want someone to wear it to your wedding.  You can also get a sweater type thing over it that's long sleeves since you wanted that.

     It all depends on whether it is day or evening.  Fabric is important.  Daytime- cotton will work.  Evening- It's got to be an upscale fabric, such as silk or wool crepe (It's very light, so don't think because it's wool you'll  melt.)  Style for day is something in a light color with a floral or geometric print.  Minimal jewelry in a simple chain type style works with these light fabrics.  Style for evening is a solid color in a muted tone, such as black or forest green.  Accent it with gemstone jewelry to make it look festive.  Daytime shoes are nothing more than a two inch heel, whereas evening allows you to pull out the four inch stilettos.  Long sleeves are difficult to pull off in hot weather, but you could do a silk dress with crepe sleeves, which would give you the long sleeve but still look light and summery.
