  1. Stay away from cotton, and DO NOT wear more than one pair of socks. My socks are alpaca and merino wool. If your feet get hot and sweat, your day is ruined.

  2. Dress for the conditions

Wear several thin layers under your jacket

Carry a backpack so you can take layers off if you get too hot

    Turtle knecks are great!

  3. i usualy wear pajamas under waterproof pants and jaket

  4. Without an idea of the temperature I would say

Hat / Helmet if you have one

    goggles

    parka

    sweater / sweatshirt

    turtleneck

    long undies

    gloves / mittens

    long undies

    pants of some sort

    ski pants

I usually go with 1 pair of socks, some people swear by 2 but I like an nice fit in my boots.

I got back from Vail last Thursday which is about the same elevation.

It was sunny and 65 F on my first day there (Saturday)

    then snowing and overcast (Sunday)

    then clear and calm (Mon)

    blizzard like conditions  (Tues)

    and calm and clear  (Wed)

I wore the same scheme every day,  if you get too hot just unzip your jacket, take off your hat or remove a layer.

  5. Well it depends on how much you will be sking and how.

If you are an begineer (as i assumne you are as you don't know what to wear) then you will have a easier time. You won't be going to high in the mountains and you won't ski for so long and do such hard piests.

So i would recommend the following :

A helmet, googles, baclava(if snow is falling or is very cold) then thermal vest, thin jumper and ski jacket. Then thermal pants and ski trousers. You need nice thick sock, i have ones which come up to my knees.

You will find that you will be coldest going up on chair lifts but this is a short time and if you dress to warmly then you will get hot and sweat which is horrible when you ski (having a sweaty vest).

You can always take a backpack with you and put extra clothes in it.

  6. You'll deffinetly want to wear thermal clothing, try a BodyArmour undershirt, with a flannel shirt over and then a warm shirt and a meduim weight jacket.

Thermal leggings and snow pants are usuall all you need.

the weather can change suddenly at higher alltitudes and the wind can really pick up.

make sure to wear a a turtle fur/face gaurd under your helmet to prevent frostbite on the face/neck.

I've skiied in high allitudes and gotten frostbite even thought the weather was 40f atthe base of the mountain the wind chill factor at the tops was -10f.

  7. Inner layer: something non-cotton and long sleeved/legged. Long underwear works but you want to make sure it's not cotton because when cotton gets wet (from sweat or snow) it's heavy and won't insulate. It'll make you colder.

Middle layer: this one is for warmth. Fleece is great. Wool works too. Again, not cotton if you can swing it.

Outer layer: waterproof! Windproof! Tuck your middle upper body layer into your pants to make a nice barrier. Gloves and a hat are important too.

Sometimes I wear two middle layers, sometimes not. The great thing about layering rather than just wearing a parka is that if you get a bit warmer you can take one thing off and you can easily add one thing. What I usually wear is:

Legs: underwear, polypro pants, thin fleece pants, snow pants.

Upper body: polypro long sleeve shirt, tshirt, fleece jacket, winter jacket.

If you're going to the peak and doing long runs I'd recommend a small backpack to make layer changes easier & to carry a snack/drink.
