What should it sound like if the Spark plug gaps are to small in my engine?

I have a Chevy 350 engine. i just replaced my stock distributor with a new pertronix flame thrower HEI distributor. I believe the gaps may be to small for this new found SPARK i have....if this is the case what sounds should i look for??? What does it sound like when gaps are to small??? Need some help on this one please=)

  2. The wider the gap the hotter the spark ... as long as it is strong enough to actually jump the gap ... many cars today use gaps of 60 and some even as high as 95 ... Usually if the plug is gapped too small what will happen is the plug will foul out because it won't burn hot enough to burn clean.  But an incorrect gap of just a few thousands (5 or less) usually will never cause a problem that the driver can feel or hear.

    You need to use the recommended plug gap that was listed for your engine by the manufacturer of your new ignition system ... also make sure you are using the correct plug for your new after market system ... many of them don't recommend using a standard plug.
