What should my 10 month old be eating?

My daughter is 10 months old and hasn't really taken to her baby food. Typically, what types of foods should she be eating at this stage? She just recently got her bottom two teeth, but that's it. Also, she does seem to want what we eat, but I'm afraid to try too many things.

  1. She can be offered just about anything you are making for yourself as long as you can eat it cut up w/o needing to chew.  My oldest wasn't interested in any solids at that age, he is just fine at 2 1/2 and eats everything I put in front of him.  My youngest (12 months) has always been a good eater, but loves to have food he can feed himself.

  2. Right around the 10 month mark was when my son switched entirely from jarred food to table foods. I was scared to make the switch and try new things as well, but to my surprise he hasn't had trouble with anything yet. At this point he's had most everything aside from nuts, honey, shellfish etc. It seemed to happen overnight. If you haven't started with much yet I'd just stick to really soft stuff like cheese and some fruits. Baked beans are a favorite in our house. Typical routine for our 12 month old (hasn't really changed since month 10)

7am- breakfast: fruit & pancakes, or fruit, egg, & toast, & juice

    9am- 6oz bottle

11:30am- lunch: chicken & Kraft single, or grilled cheese, fruit, veggie, & juice

    2pm- 6oz bottle

4pm- snack: cheerios, fruit, & juice

5:30- dinner: whatever we're having (unless it's too spicey) always a meat (has tried & liked most everything), starch such as rice or potato, veggie, usually some applesauce, & juice

    7:30- 6 or 7oz bottle

...only difference at 10 months was an extra bottle in the mix somewheres. If you haven't really tried any tables yet just start with cheerios etc (we started those by cutting in quarters because I was nervous). You may find that your girl takes better to table foods than to her baby foods. Ours made it quite clear one day that he was finished with the baby stuff. Hope that's helpful.... don't rush yourself, or your baby... but be open and prepared for the next stage! It's a fun one! ...and life becomes SO much easier when they eat adult foods. Good luck & have fun experimenting!

  3. She can eat what you eat, as long as it is well cooked and either mashed or cut into tiny pieces if she likes to feed herself. Just be sure you space 2 days between the introduction of new foods to be sure she doesn't have a food allergy reaction.

  4. A bowl of nails for breakfast with a tall glass of antifreeze
