What should my 11 year old daughter wear for her jazz class?

all i know is that she is going barefoot. what should she wear? is there "jazz pants/shirts?" this is her first jazz dance class fyi. thanks!

because it is her first class i would recomend a black leotard with a little sparkle to it and then have her wear tan cut off tights and biker shorts that you can get at a dance store... oh and have her wear sofe shorts over them

wear a leotard. or a tank top meant for dancing

but a leotard is always better

and if you're going to have her wear shorts, wear capri length tights underneath

but you can also wear capris, or even pants.

i've been in jazz class for 6 years so it kind of depends on the studio, some places have a dress code.

at my studio most people just wear a leotard, tan tights, shorts and a tank top. but you should also get some black jazz pants for her. they help in recitals. =]

usually tight fitting clothing works so the instructor can see your placement and if your doing the correct thing.

and barefoot is definately not a good idea. socks work, but you could slip, so maybe think about getting her some jazz shoes, but don't buy something expensive. i recomend Discount Dance Supply. google it and you should find what your looking for. (i buy shoes, tights and jazz pants there almost every year)

ask the school; some dance schools have  a dress code.

my jazz classes required all black, so i wore a black leotard or tank top and black wide leg jazz pants. the dance clothes should  be comfortable, in a cotton with a light stretch. most dance teachers like to see their students leg , knee and arm position when learning choreography or during the stretch sequence, so clothes that would allow that are also best.

barefoot is probably not a great idea. jazz dance sneakers or split sole jazz shoes are best.  i preferred a brand named bloch.

if you stock up on these basics, she can mix and match:

-tan tights (convertible)

-black leotard

-colorful tank tops(you can get them at old navy, etc.)

-black jazz pants (spandex-y long pants)

-black "spankies"(short spandex bike shorts)

-maybe a fun/bright colored pair of shorts

-"lyrical shoes"in case she needs them to turn (i highly reccommend "cat claws")

she should be set! oh, and make sure she has her hair back in a ponytail! happy dancing!

Best thing to do is call or visit the studio's website. Ask or look around until you find the dress code. It will be listed there.

But the basic dress code for jazz dance is black. This is my studio's dress code for jazz:

Black bodysuit (leotard), any style

Suntan tights, Mondor Style #310

Dance pants or shorts may be worn over tights, or instead of tights

Jazz shoes, made by Bloch

Hair must be pulled securely

Basically, you needs these things:

- Leotard:

You need dance tights, not just regular tights. I suggest suntan (beige). There are three kinds of tights. Footless, footed, and convergible. Since your daughter is going barefoot, get footless. There are some different colours and styles of tights here: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

- Pants or Shorts:

-Jazz Shoes:

Usually for a jazz class, you wear jazz shoes. These are leather, split sole shoes. You can get them as slip ons (easier for little kids) or lace up (old fashioned). You can also get them in black or beige/caramel. But, you said your daughter is going barefoot, so don't worry about it!
