Question:

What should my bridesmaids carry?

I'm getting married on Valentine's Day in 2009. I know flowers are going to be extremely expensive, that is why I am trying to use as little as possible. I will be carrying a bouquet of red roses, probably 2 dozen, fully opened. But I'm not sure what to have my bridesmaids carry. They are wearing red, strapless dresses, a little below the knee. I thought about kissing balls, but that includes flowers too!

Suggestions, please!

  1. silk flowers

single white rose with red ribbon

each carry up something for the ceremony like a unity candle or sand

if you aren't having a flower girl you can do baskets or purses with flower petals

candles (in a good holder not to start on fire)

    old fashioned fans

in a church? bibles or prayer books

    crystal bouquets

    paper flowers

  2. a single rose

  3. An idea that's cool for a winter nighttime wedding is lanterns with little tealights inside. You can pick them up at Michael's or that type of place for less than $10. It gives the girls something to carry and looks very different than the traditional floral thing.

  4. How about having them use a muff?  They are those furry things the girls can stick their hands into.  But fake fur (real fur is just mean and REAL expensive).  You could even have them made I'm sure.

It would be appropriate sine the wedding is in the winter and you wouldn't have to worry about spending money on flowers/  They look very classy and you could get them in white to match the "valentine" theme.

  5. I got married in the winter and I had no intention on blowing the bank on flowers that were going to die before the night was over anyway.  I made all of our bouquets with crystals.  Mine had about 400 swarovski crystals and my girls had about half of that.  I bought them in bulk online, the wire and ribbons from the local craft shop.  They looked stunning, lots of complements. I got married in the evening so the candle light really made them sparkle.  Although, for the cake topper, I used three pink roses and put a few smaller crystals throughout (I'm big on sparkle) =)  And it all cost around 300 bucks!  Anyhow that could work for your girls too.  If you are having roses for yourself, I would do something that included at least one rose and/or something the with the same colour as yours in their arrangements.  Just to keep the flow...

Good luck and best wishes to you!

  6. Get a bunch of roses from Costco..TWO dozen for $20.00 and they are GORGEOUS, usually last at least a week. Add some baby's breath and ribbon and you're done. Beautiful and low-cost. Last week they had white ones with red touches in them. Can't get cheaper than that.

  7. what about umbrellas with hearts on them or fans with hearts on them they are really cheap good luck!

  8. Sence you are getting married on Valentine's day how about you make chocolate roses and cover them in pink or white foil that you can buy at a candy store.  They would be a lot cheaper then real flowers and it goes with the theme.

  9. 3 white roses... that's all you need... make it pretty with a nice red bow... no one would really notice what they're carrying... you're the bride... all eyes on you!

    Congratulations!

  10. I like the 3 white roses idea, you could even do just 1 or 2, maybe with a little baby's breath and red and white ribbon

  11. You could do a presentation style bouq. (like miss america) with as little as three roses (silk even) to be laid across  the arm.

but I also liked the idea with the red candy boxes, only attach a ribbon to them just like you would with a kissing ball (pomander)

  12. how about small clutches.

  13. How about a bouquet of white ostrich feathers?

An old fashioned hurricane lamp (battery operated candle)

which can have a ring of ivy added to it with ribbons.

  14. Carnations are cheaper flowers and will not be more expensive for valentine's day.  You could also consider having them carry some sort of heart shaped item.  You could also consider either fake flowers or just rose petals because those would not be nearly as expensive and would unify your theme.

  15. My bridesmaids are carrying clear plastic boxes with silk rose petals in them, throwing them on the aisle for me to walk on, and then setting the boxes at the sides of the alter when they get up to it. Saves me on bouquets, and I don't have to have a flower girl, because I don't want any children at my wedding, messing everything up.

  16. What about heart-shaped candy boxes?  You could get them in red or pink....It would go with the theme...

  17. Their dresses are already red - so you could think outside the box and choose a different color for flowers. How about white freesia or lisianthus for all of you?
