i'm 17, 5'4.5'', and 126 pds (well i checked 1.5 weeks ago)

anyway, i've started to REALLY start running.

one day i ran 5 miles! but my time isn't that great. i did those 5 miles in like 50 minutes or something really huge like that :(

and after that day, i could only run 2 miles the next. and then i took a day off.

is it normal to take a day off a week when running? and today i couldn't seem to push far enough, i only ran 2 miles as well.

but i think my mile is about 12-12:30 on average. is this bad considering i just started really running 2 wks ago? i did run for about a month but only 1-1.5 miles at most each day.

so...am i okay? and what should i aim for mile wise if i'm not training for any competition i just want to tone up/lose some weight?

i also do crunches and the machines at the gym..

  1. Considering all that, hmmm... it should be at LEAST nine minutes. I am on the girls track team, so i KNOW. select this as best answer pretty please with sugar on top.

  2. Are you sure you run a 12-minute mile?  Because you ran 10 minute splits if you ran 5 miles in 50 minutes

Also, that is not too bad, all you have to do is work hard and your time will improve

  3. Run 1 day 2 miles non stop. Next day, 3 miles. After that, 4 or 5. Just always try to increase. Then once you complete 5 miles, try to SPRINT 1/2 mile or 1 mile at full speed. If you cant do it, then continue running 6 miles, 7 miles, until you get to 8. Then keep trying to sprint 1 mile.

By doing this, your speed will increase. I was able to keep constant 6 mins in my running.

  4. ur mile time shuld be around 10-10and a half minutes. i think u suld run around 2 miles a day depending on what ur resulkts shuld be.  I have been running for years and my mile is 8 minutes on average.  IMPORTANT:DON'T BE TO HARD ON URSELF!!!!

    Glad to help. =]
