  1. International studies would give your journalism an interesting, wider scope, but not every school has an international studies minor.  Or, make it a language so that you can be a journalist in more than one language.  Or political science to be a Washington (not necessarily physically in Washington)....really, it can be anything that you're interested in (and whatever your school has available to you).

  2. You should follow your interests--international studies is an excellent choice IF you are interested in that area (you'd need a foreign language for 3-4 years).  Others include science, urban planning, photography (again if you have the talent), psychology, political science/government, etc.  Go through your college's catalog and find a department with courses that really excite you.

PS VERY good idea to have a minor with journalism--the jobs are very competitive and you need some broader academic experience.

  3. A practical choice would be something that would complement your field of study and/or your future career. With journalism some handy options could be...

    Spanish

    communications

    political science

    sociology

    creative writing

Or, you could study something of interest to you that you didn't necessarily want to major in. Journalism is a pretty broad field and you could tie in pretty much any academic subject somehow

(ie, French - not a lot of people speak French locally to my region, but it helps you better understand the English language OR nutrition - it's not directly related to the field of journalism itself, but you could write health/nutrition columns, etc.).

As always, you may want to speak with an adviser and see what he/she recommends. Or, contact a potential future employer (a company you want to work for) and ask what sort of educational credentials they seek out or would give you an advantage.

    Good luck!
