What should my newborn babies wear home from the hospital?

I've heard a couple of different things. I've heard to not wear any type of onsie because it will rub the umbilical cord area. But it's hard to find something like that unless they wear a side snap t-shirt with a diaper. I was hoping they would wear something a little cuter than that. Other people say it's totally fine to wear a onsie. Also is it okay that they wear long sleeves while its summer?? i don't want them to be too hot

  1. I put my oldest daughter in a side snap t-shirt when she came home from the hospital.  She was born on August 17, 2004 and it was over 100 degrees when we came home in a car with no air conditioning.  We went straight home.  I wasn't too worried about formality.  I was more worried about her comfort.  I really don't get the whole "going home outfit" It was only my hubby and me there anyway.  Its not like she had to be wearing a cute outfit for the car ride home.  I put her in something else when we got home.

  2. what ever you want remember you will be taking pictures so make it cute. don't worry about the umbilical cord

  3. my daugher wore a onsie home and it was long sleeves. i dont think that a light long sleeve would be bad since they are still adjusting to the temp. just make sure its loose fitting

she was born in april so it was a little warm.

  4. whatever outfit you want to take your baby home in..  make it a special outfit though:)   something unique..

  5. my daughter was born 14th august, i got home on the 18th august. it was warm but pouring with rain. she wore a little humphreys corner dress and cardigan, a pair of tights, a heavier cardi over the top and a hat and scratch mits.

my midwife told me a rule of thumb is always give baby 1 more layer than you wear.

  6. Find a cute short set. That way the baby won't be too hot.

  7. pick a cute outfit

  8. my son just wore a sleeper. with matching hat and booties. it was really cold outside. i didnt want to dress him up too much because i wanted him to be as comfy as possible.  I also let my grandmother pick it out. its family tradition.  and dont let anything get too close to the stump. it needs to breathe.
