Question:

What should the Brownlow Medal be renamed as?

I know this has probably been the subject of other questions in here but is it not about time the medal had a name change, to keep up with the modern trend of expanding the VFL to the AFL?

The name Brownlow means nothing to most Australians. It should be changed - maybe to the Australian Medal. It would be far more fitting & prized more by players & winners. Do you agree?

  1. Maybe we should change the names of the suburban clubs to because they dont apply anymore either. So no i do not agree

  2. The name should stay as it is..... with the name comes great honour to the players..... If it ain't broken don't fix it!

  3. The AFL dosent exactly have a long history and even when it was purely a medal for the best and fairest in the VFL it has been won by players who originated from other states besides Victoria.

Before the inseption of the AFL any player that had  above average ability and wanted to develop as a player usually aspired to pay in the VFL as the home of Aussie Rules and the pinnicle for quality footy.

I don’t believe a name change is warranted but admittedly the James Hird Medal sounds all right!

  4. The Crazy Joe medal would be a good name for it.

It's crazy to have the medal named after some old codger, named Brownlow, anyway.

  5. James Hird medal

  6. Leave it as it is.  It has great tradition and who cares about "Most Australians" anyway.  It is the Supporters that matter and we all know the significance of this medal.   I don't really think it should be the Umpires who give points for it though.  There should be a separate panel maybe 3 people at every game who award the votes from 1 to 3rd best or something as the Umpires have too much to think about like Errr is that bloke holding the ball after being caught in a 360 degrees tackle and Errr no maybe he isn't holding the ball....Dah!!!!

  7. The Brown Nose Medal

  8. the FEV medal

  9. What would the point of that be? I am a teenager, and I know the significance of the Brownlow! Some things should just remain the way they are, so there is at least some tradition left in the AFL!

  10. The Jimmy Bartel medal lol :p I would want that medal hehe he

  11. As the present longest serving coach, it should be renamed "The Mickey Malthouse Medal". Has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

  12. The 'Suck up the umps bum medal'.

  13. I think the Brownlow probably has meant as much to  Chris Judd/Ben Cousins/Adam Goodes and whoever else has won it since it became AFL as it did to all the people who won the Brownlow while playing VFL. Leave it as is! (Or maybe you think we should also rename the Coleman Medal & the Norm Smith Medal also??)

It means something to the players who win it and that is what matters. Brownlow medal ties it immediately to Aussie Rules, whereas the Australian Medal could be for anything!

  14. Yes, the Brownlow medal should be renamed.

Whatever it is to be called would be open for review but it would have to be something indicative of AUSTRALIAN Football league - not Victorian. Who wants medals named after the likes of James Hird? Apart from being a Vic, what has he done to deserve a medal named after him?

The AFL medal would satisfy me.

  15. the Wizard Home Loan Toyota Medal, presented by Channel 10

  16. Yeah, the AFL Medal would be better.

  17. The Zac Dawson medal

  18. Why should it be changed?

There is nothing wrong with the current name, apart from James Hird no-one else is deserving of having a medal named after them.
