Taking your advice wacky (hoping you get this and read it) I've thought to either divide my aviary into 4 areas as it was once a piggery, so a cage for each row. OR my friend is offering to give me a free portable cage and I'm wondering whether to take it or not. Whether or not to do some more hardwork on my JUST BUILT aviary >:|.

Come to my rescue again wacky :P

  1. Wacky to the rescue!!!!

Well you have the space to build or just use the piggery as an Aviary,

If you want to breed in a cage it needs to be a minimum of 4ft. square, for 1 pair of birds.

In flights you would be best with 6ft. Long  6ft High if possible by at least 2ft.wide.this would house 2-3 pairs.

Also if you are housing flights alongside each (ie dividing an aviary or cage) make sure you have a double wire separation, this is to prevent toe pecking by neighbours ,Lovebirds have an awful habit of doing this.

But in your case I would go for an Aviary but depending on how many birds you have or intend to get.

Remember when buying Love birds it is better to keep the same species to-gether and if more than one pair you must release them into Aviary at the same time, don't put in mixed species

    Keep the species pure.

The reason that you don't put pairs in on separate occasions is that the resident pair will Always attack newcomers and even Kill them.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Come back for more!! The reason I no longer give my email address .is I  had so many abusive .ones.

I have bred and raised various species of Lovebird's for over 25 years and I am going on my experiences and my successful breeding of these birds.

Along with Exhibiting and being a Judge at various Bird Shows.

  2. Take the cage, it sounds much cleaner.  You don't know what kind of bacteria may be in the "piggery" area.  Birds require a clean enviroment.  You will have to keep it clean so you don't have bacterial growth, especially when raising birds. A cage does NOT have to be 4 ft sq for each pair of birds.  I raise love birds my self and have for years.  A cage that is  2.5 ft x 2.5 ft  x 2.5 high,is plenty big enough for one pair.  It still has plenty of room for the nest box to be inside if you chose to set it up that way.   Be sure to separate the babies from the parents when they have been weaned for about a month or so.  Don't allow interbreeding in any of your birds.  This can result in birds that have health problems. Always make sure none of the breeders are related. Please read my profile.

  3. Well the Down Marker strikes at Wacky again I wonder who it can be???but it always happens when certain ones come in with their answers.

Since WACKY started to give his advice I have had the best year in breeding for years and I follow his hints and tips.

I have been in contact with him when he first started and he told me of his problem of the emails.

So inSan1ty you cant go wrong  by asking Wacky,

  4. a lovebird cage is not that big and by lovebirds being small they are good in a small house cage mine are in a small one and they can still flye around but be advised that alot of love birds do not like the nesing box the like the little house coop that hangs in there cage I have 4 sets of them and only 1 will use the box good luck hope this works
