  1. great appetizers!

  2. Cocktail parties don't have a main event.  It's all about appetizers, people and cocktails.

  3. The party is the event. Meeting new people, talking, snacks, good music and a relaxed atmosphere and of course cocktails are all you really need. If you have concerns about the flow of conversation you could--depending on the guests and what they like to do--have a trivia game or something. Something as simple as napkins with jokes on them or quotes can keep the conversation going nicely.

  4. You could play dvd games? there are so many to choose from? and everyone can sit in the lounge and play the dvd game on your t.v? everyone will be comfy sitting on your sofa and everyone will be together so conversation will always be flowing? the dvd game will never get people board because there is always something to do? enjoy your cocktail party

  5. You're all set, really - drinks and atmosphere. And some appetizers.

There's no main event; cocktail parties aren't supposed to last very long. It's just a pre-dinner event.

Just be sure to "keep the plates spinning" by introducing guests to each other and getting them started by telling them something they have in common. Watch for people whose conversation is lagging and break in to give them a chance to end the conversation easily.
