I know that the mothers are not supposed to "match" and not supposed to wear the same color as the bridesmaids... but does that mean they can't wear blue at all? My wedding is near to Christmas, and mom suggested red & green, but I fear the red will clash with the very blood red carpet (which is why red is not in my color scheme). Blue is mom's favorite color, but now she doesn't think any hue of blue is ok.

If no blue is ok... what about periwinkle, lavender, turquoise, and the other 'sort of' blue colors? I was hoping one mother could wear any icy blue (for winter) and one coud wear a very dark blue. Or metallics: gold, silver, bronze. (Bridesmaids' shoes are brown/bronze.)

I picked blue and chocolate brown knowing blue was my mom's favorite color and she'd love to wear it. And any shade is fine by me: navy, baby, lilac, anything.

My second choices would be turquoise for the mother of the groom and a deep purple for my mom - which would still work for pictures.

  1. Your mother and mother-in-law should wear whatever color they feel most comfortable in. Blue is totally fine - it can even be the same color as your bridesmaids are wearing. Just tell them that you want them to feel beautiful and they should wear whatever color they want.

  2. the mothers can wear whatever they want. they don't have to match the bridesmaids or groomsmen

  3. My bridesmaid is wearing teal, my mom is wearing lilac, and I'm hoping to get my mother in law to wear indigo or berry.  These are all alfred angelo colors if you want look them up online.  I went with several different colors that will blend well together in photos.

    Good Luck!

  4. yellow, mint green, or lavender

  5. Something in cream or a creamy beige would work. That color would work with bridesmaid dresses and tuxes.
