What should the temperature be in the cage for a ball phython?

90-100 degrees basking area, and no less than 80 in the rest of the tank.

make sure the water bowl is on the cool side

also i dont prefer using heat pads

but instead heat lamps

you could severly burn your snake by using a heat pad

this temperature should be consisten through their life even when they grow up.

85-90 F on the hot side and 75-80 on the cold side. heat pad and heat lamp work to get the temp up on the hot side. thermometers help alot. the hot side should NEVER go above 100 F

the temperature for the cool side is 80-85 degrees F

the temperature for the hot side is 85 - 90 degrees F with a basking spot of 95 degrees F

to acheive these temperatures you can use ceramic heat emitters, basking lights, red lights, blue lights, and uth (under tank heaters). to be on the safe side you can use a rheostat or a  

thermostat

your basking or warm side of the tank should be 85 to 90 degrees, as well as humid.  Ball pythons are notorious for having eye caps sticking.  you can achieve the humidity by wetting the substrate often.  you will need to "flip" the substrate often as well since the water will settle to the bottom of the enclosure.  the water dish does need to be on the cool side of the tank, the cool temp in the tank should be no lower than 70 degrees.  the substrate has a lot to do with how the temp in the tank will be as well as the type of heater.  uth or under the tank heaters can burn animals without a riostat,  that is a device that controls the output of heat the heater puts out.
