Question:

What should the water returning to the pool look like immediately after backwashing/rinsing?

I backwash a couple of minutes, rinse for 30 seconds, confirm that the water in the sight glass is looking clear, and then I switch it to filter. A cloud of dirty-looking water comes out of the return for 15-20 seconds before it looks like it runs clear again. Is this normal? Is there some segment of water in the line between the return and the filter that stays there during backwashing/rinsing and therefore comes out when that segment of line goes back into use when the filter starts up again? (A friend suggested that hypothesis!)

FYI, I just changed the sand in my filter yesterday. It improved the situation (before it would run cloudy after backwashing for a lot longer) but it didn't solve it.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Your not backwashing and rinsing for long enough, if you have dust returning to the pool.

  2. perhaps try rinsing longer....what type of media are you using?..I know glass media backwashes very easy don't usually have that problem: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...

  3. That sounds about normal.

Ours does the same thing after backwashing, but when I return it to filter, I get air bubbles for a few seconds back in the pool.

Backwash again tomorrow and see if it does it again.

It is such a small amount that it will not do any harm to your water.

    :-)
