  1. We should send our money to people like Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, and Carol Midgen.  They are so smart!!

  2. You are going to like the answer.

    Save money!

    Here's what I mean.

    > If you switch to compact florescent lights (CFLs, they last so long it offsets the higher initial cost--and the savings in energy will cut the average persons power bill by 7%.

    >Take mass transit if you can--or at least get a fuel efficient car.  Electrics are on the way, but unless you've got  $100 grand yu don't need, they aren't available just yet.

But  here's the numbers: Assume a car that gets 18 mpg and that you drive 18000 miles a year. At $4/gallon that 's $4000/year. Switch to a car that gets 25 mpg andthat drosps to $2800/year.  And smaller fuel efficient cars also cost less to buy and maintain. If you need a large vehicle, get a minivan instead of an SUV--they don't cost more, they use less gas--and, despite the hype, they are safer.

    >You can cut your power bills by using some simple strategies. I live in an apartment--I can't rip out the windows and install double paned glass, etc. Nevertheless, I've cut my enrgy bills 30%. Part of that is using CFLs.  But I also got new weather strippping put in around the doors (and the windows, though I had to do that myself).  Cut down the hot water heater setting (trick--you can have jsut as much hot water for a bath--just run the water ahead of time more slowly--it gives the heater time to heat more, but you don't pay for keeping the water really superhot 24/7).

Now think about something else--NONE of this will cramp your current lifestyle unless you've got a fixation on owning an SUV. Can't elp you there!

Just for the icing on the cake--I  and my roommate have 1 car (hers) which we drie maybe twice a week.  Otherwise we're able to use the subway.  Add it all up and compared to the standard 2-dar  roomie household, and we save roughly $10-12,000 per year.

And as for "doing without"-as I painted out, we give up very little.  But gain all the things we can buy and do with that money--our lifestyle is BETTER now. And (we found out how to track it) our combined carbon emissions have dropped by over half!

    Not a bad deal!

  3. RECYCLE.

  4. Do not litter.

  5. 1) buy a giant SUV and drive around constantly

    2) turn all the lights on in ur house

    3) turn the temperature nob on ur fridge all the way up

    4) spray aerosol cans in the air

    5) start a tire fire in ur back yard

following those 5 patented methods should lessen ur impact on the environment

  6. recycle as much as we can, car pool, conserve as much energy as we can by turning off lights when we don't need to have them on, etc...

  7. 1. Reduce, Reuse Recycle (Ever notice reduce comes first?)

    2. If you own a vehicle own a higher efficient one like a hybrid.

    3. Live downtown and rarely drive

    4. Give to various environmental charities (Union of concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, and the Sierra Club, etc).

    5. Go Vegan. Probably one of the greatest positive impacts an individual can have on the environment as meat production in more energy intensive, and creates massive amounts of methane (20x's more powerful than CO2), as well as takes us to 16 pounds of grain to make one pound of beef).

    6. Buy local goods. Being a locovore is key to helping the environment when our food is shipped an average of 1600 miles. I buy at the local co-ops and farmers markets. I also buy local woods, fragrance sprays, clothing and more. Whatever I can find that is of decent quality and price I buy over non-local.

    7. Gardening: I have planted many bushes trees and flowers over the last few years. I also have a food garden that brings local and sustainability to a whole new level.

    8. Compost: Saves loads on trash and I need not by fertilizers which are often petroleum based. I also save on having buy and to ship in extra dirt.

    9. Travel Less: Especially buy plane which literally releases tones of CO2 per passenger per trip.

    10. Promote Awareness: We can't do this alone

    11. Write elected officials to create green laws.

    12. Put CFL's or LED's throughout your whole house.

    13. Use solar and crank flashlights: They save me money and the environment in energy as well as the embodied energy of batteries.

    14. Use tote bags :America uses over 380 billion bags a year that will not decompose in the landfills.

    15. Drink filtered not bottled water which takes petroleum for each bottle you drink and through away.

    16. Throw away a little as possible: I often find uses of people who want things in which many would through away out of sheer laziness.

    17. Buy hemp clothing: grows more prolifically than cotton, is stronger fabric making it last longer, and requires no pesticides.

    18. Buy recycled goods such as toilet paper, reclaimed materials for shoes, used clothing and construction materials, etc.

    19. Add extra insulation to you house.

    20. Walk or bike where possible; Or if you must take public transportation.

  8. There are three simple things you can do at your local grocery store:

    1) Buy organic- Pesticide use pollutes water and soils and also reduces the natural biodiversity of an area.

    2) Buy local- So much fuel is wasted by shipping produce across the country.

    3) Bring your own bags to the store- Plastic bags are rarely reused and fill our landfills.  Canvas bags make for a much more environmentally friendly alternative.

Also, keep these three terms in mind: reduce, reuse, recycle.  Your impact can be minimized just by doing little things each day that will eventually add up over a lifetime.

  9. Recycle

Use less electricity by turning off lights, hang-drying clothing, using cold water instead of hot in the washer, only running dishwasher when it is full, taking shorter showers, for starters.

I make my own biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning supplies that are eco-friendly, and its NOT THAT HARD or costly as you would think.

    Carpool.

There are entire lines of eco-friendly cleaning supplies/toiletries and entire stores now devoted to the cause. They have things like toilet paper and paper towels.

Thats all I have got off the top of my head, but I am sure there are so many more!

  10. limit electricity comsumption, water consumption and try to consume just as much as we need of natural resources.. not more than we need.

  11. WAKE UP we need to get with people Like Jim Starry and you can Google him he has alot of answers to save the planet his airport design is remarkable he has 123 technologies to help the enviroment he has spent 1 and a half million dollars of his own money to save the planet
