What should we do regarding my husbands lost settlement money?

About 20 years ago my husband won a settlement lawsuit for lead paint poison. At that time he was a kid and his mother was the trustee of the account. Well she was on drugs at that time (and still is), and she doesn't have any of the paperwork or she claims she doesn't remember what life insurance company the payments were being structured out of. What is the first step we should take to find his money? The settlement was for about $89,000. Can anyone help?

  1. I agree with Fighting Saints.

  2. Go to the courthouse of the county where the claim took place. These type of settlements normally have to be approved by a judge so the courthouse should have a record that would include what insurance company was involved.

    Good Luck

  3. Look into your city treasurer, sometimes they have an unclaimed property website. Hope that helps!
