Question:

What should we register for?

The problem I'm coming across is that we've lived together for 3 1/2 years already (4 1/2 by wedding time). We have almost everything we need. We'd prefer cash and plan to spread the word about that but we want a registry too because some old geezers we know refuse to give cash. We don't want fancy glassware or china or anything, we'll never use it. We're not fancy party people, we're backyard, relaxed BBQ people.

Here is the list I have so far:

Glass coffee mugs

Serving platter

Bed sheets/sets

End Tables

Placemats

Soup cups/pasta bowls

Gravy boat

Salad Bowl

Glasses

Food Processor

Frying Pan (1 small, 1 large)/ Other cookware

Knife set

Butcher Block – cutting block

Mattress

Bath Mat/toilet mat

Scale

Hand Vacuum

This is where we are stuck.

Thanks in advance guys!

  1. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

    blender

    toaster

publix gift cards ( hey you need food)

    Tupperware

  2. tools, lawnmower, margarita maker, cookbooks, patio furniture, small electronics, satellite radio, clocks, good quality bakeware, kitchen shears,

    espresso maker,

  3. Wow!!  I can think of tons of things, but it's totally up to you.

What shape are your things in?  Are these new?  Dishes, etc? or could they stand to be replaced?

    Dishes

    Silverware

Bakeware -- pizza pans, cake pans, bread pans

Other cookware -- baking dishes, casserole dishes

Towels and washcloths:  bath and kitchen

    George Foreman Grill

    Panini Grill

    Microwave

    Bowls - like pyrex

Serving pieces ....nice bowls; covered bowls

    Canisters

    Living room items....lamps, tables, pictures

    Tools?

Fun things.....tennis rackets, camping items, etc.

    BBQ and BBQ items

Yes, some of us "old geezers" (I'm 52) DO enjoy going out, looking over the registry, purchasing a gift....going to another store to get a card....coming home and wrapping it...and bringing it to the reception.  If you have that kind of an attitude, then simply do not register....us "old geezers" will get it...we do have a brain.

  4. My new husband and I were in the same situation, so what we did was register for all the regular registry items, but we registered for more expensive nicer things than we would ever buy for ourselves, So the things that we did get were really nice. The majority of our guests did give us money, since they knew we probably had everything we needed.

  5. How about kitchen electrics like small appliances like a toaster oven, blender, or nice coffee maker

bath towels or a whole new bath set (curtain, towels, accessories)

    new bed set

    nicer cook wear

entertaining items like bar ware, snack trays, and glasses

    register for a honeymoon

  6. My fiance and I are in the same boat hon. We just had a brand new modular home dropped in Nov, and we pretty much have the necessities. Although, with money being kind of tight at that point, we took alot of hand me downs, so we're gonna register for the basics, just better (plates and that sort of stuff). Doesn't sound like you're in the same boat, though. Here's a few ideas, though....

-Beer/Champagne/Wine Glasses- Yes, I know you don't want to do the whole fancy glassware stuff, but register for about 4 beer mugs and 4 champagne glasses from someplace like Walmart or Target. More than likely, you'll have an occasion where you're glad you have them.

-Not sure how you guys are about these items, but what about butter dish and sugar bowl?

-Nice BBQ accessory set. One with tongs, spatula, brush etc. that you can keep on the grill.

-Grill light. They're not that expensive at Walmart, and if you are grilling later at night, they're AWESOME, and your guy will love it! (Got one for my fiance for his birthday last year, and we've gone through batteries in it from using it so much more than you can imagine.)

-Patio Furniture- Great for hanging out by the grill in the back yard

    -One of those firepits things

-Gas and/or Charcoal Grill (ALOT of stuff is much better on charcoal, but gas is nice if you're doing something nice like brats or burgers)

    -Solar lights for the backyard

    -Tiki Torches

-Somesort of outdoor bar (again, not totally sure that this applies...)

    -Patio umbrella for the table

And, the biggest one that any outdoorsy couple needs, one of those 7 day coolers. Have one and I LOVE it. Granted it doesn't last the full 7 days, but it's a heck of a lot better then the old igloo one that my mom had when I was a kid, where the ice was practically melted after 4 hours...lol.

  7. then, you don't need anything else. asking for money is cheap.

  8. It's kind of hard without knowing what you already have. When my sister registered at a department store they gave her a sample registry, which is where she got a lot of ideas of things she could put on. There were things like a cordless phone and a cooler that they hadn't even thought of. Maybe you could ask the store if they do this?

Otherwise, look at things that you already have but might be nice if you up graded them or got a matching set- e.g. cooking utensils, tupperware, etc.

    Here are some suggestions:

Stake knife set (I'm assuming the knife set you've listed are chef's knives)

    BBQ utensils

    cook book

Bathroom set (e.g. soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, etc.)

Matching bath towels or beach towels

    Luggage

    new salt and pepper grinder

    throw rug

photo album for your wedding photos

    a print/mirror/frame for the wall

    vase

appliances you don't already have- it might be a rice cooker, sandwich press or something else

small furniture items- coffee table, side table, ottoman

    tools

    car care kit

  9. i just registered... this is awesome... go to Bed, Bath and Beyond, and they will give you a list of EVERYTHING you need in a house, in a checklist style so you can mark them off.  It's amazing.

  10. Well we don't know what you have, but you seem to have almost nothing listed.

Do you have enough bake ware? Muffin tins, loaf pans, 2 9x13 pans, 1 8x8 pan, a couple of jelly roll pans

How about mason jars? My fiance doesn't want to register for those, but they're a basic household item. Don't register for the seals, because you use those once and throw them out, but the jars and the rings and some of the white plastic lids that you use once you've broken the seal will all last you a long time.

Don't register for a knife set - someone will buy you a $100 set that contains 10 knives. Register for individual knives. You want one or two paring knives, a bread knife, slicing knives in two different lengths and one or two chef's knife, and make sure that you have at least an 8 inch chef's knife.

How about an all-in one counter top mixer? Register for the stand mixer, the food processor, blender, meat grinder (and if you're ambitious the pasta maker) attachments separately.

Depending on how crazy your relatives are (one of my grandmothers only has two grandkids so is planning on buying all 12 of our place settings of china) register for some more expensive things like a freezer if you don't already have a good one.

Have you got a microwave yet? How about some small casserole dishes to go in it. Actually, fill out your corningware set, get any sizes/types that you'd like and don't currently have.

In addition, we're registering for the Lee Valley compost bucket, because it's nicer than a plastic container, household tools (drill, etc) because mine are almost worn out and a bike trailer.

  11. ..linen sheets...you can pass them down...
