  1. The Travel Northern Territory site is really good

  2. Keep your windows up and don't stop :p

Focus on the national parks, there are some great bits of real Australian beauty. Apparently it's the only place in the whole world where there are rivers that run from their headwaters right to the ocean entirely inside a national park, and there are 6 such rivers. Truely the definintion of 'remote'.

  3. A lot of flat, dry, dusty country.

There's a lot to see at either end of the trip but there is a fair bit of nothing in between.

Go to RACQ Trip Planner and it can list "things to see and do" on your trip.

Enter Alice Springs to Darwin and click on "things to see and do".

  4. About an hour out of Tennant there is the Devil marbles.  They are pretty cool to go have a look at.  There is also this weird alien place on the side of the road.  There is nothing really in Tennant Creek, the main things are the IGA, and the BP complex.  In the BP complex, is the gray hound bus stop, a bp, a Karens Kitchen (they do toasted sandwitchs, and pies) and the Red Rooster.  Between Tennant and Katherine pretty much red dirt and shruby trees. There are some road house but not much else.

In Katherine, you can go to the Katherine Gorge its worth a look.  You have to go on a boat cruise to see anything or a helicopter ride.  There are some hot springs as well but they are closed in the wet season.  Katherine is a small town.

Between Katherine and Darwin, you can stop off at Berry springs, the wild life park, or Litchfield national park.

    Hope this helps.
