Winky was offered a very good deal to fight mikkel kessler for the super middlweight ranks. Wright decline b/c he wanted to stay at 160 or 154. IF u were winky wright what would you do, would you face a top middleweight fighter to try and put your name up their to challenge pavlik, go up and fight kessler but at a weight class which u r 0-1 in, or go down to 154 and fight a guy like Vernon Forest who both beat Mosley twice. If you were wright what would you do?Can he compete at a level which he beat trinidad and mosley in?

  1. Winky is getting old and washed up. He declined the Kessler fight for he knew he would be defeated. He might have a chance against Forest but it is very unlikely. He will make more money off the Vernon Forester fight so that is the one he will go with. All about the green brothers.

  2. Winky should try to get a fight with Pavlik at 160.

  3. Winky Wright doesn't want to fight fighters like Mikkel Kessler, he wants the bigger names, but the problem is that he thinks he is worth as much as someone like Oscar De La Hoya.  Thats why his rematch with Jermain Taylor fell through and thats why the talks about him fighting Joe Calzaghe barely even got started before they cooled off.  As you said, I'd like to see him face Vernon Forrest because he is also a big name and they both beat Shane Mosley twice or even Kelly Pavlik.  He can still compete at a high level, but I think that he has been slipping over his past few fights- his draw with Taylor and his loss at 170 to Hopkins where he was competitive but outmuscled.  He is not going to get any better with his age increasing and his inactivity prolonging so he needs to get a fight soon and I hope its either against Pavlik or Forrest.

  4. i agree with a winky -vernon forest fight, both fighters are getting old but still look to good to retire . i dont think winky needs to go back up to the middleweights ,hes past his prime and doesnt need to be giving fighters a weight advantage. i dont give him a chance against pavlik but he might consider it for one big payday for he retires.

  5. I think it would be interesting to see Winky Wright take on Vernon Forrest. They both have something in common, which is having two wins over Shane Mosley, something that you mentioned already. Outside of Forrest, Pavlik is the only other person I would care to see Wright fight.

  6. If I were Winky, I would probably at this point have to go where the $$$ is.  He is a heck of a fighter, I enjoy watching him, it took him so long in his career to get to this point, he should get the money while he can, not saying he should only fight for money, but I would like to see him get his just due.

  7. Winky Wright is a competer and he doesn't back down. If i was Winky I'll chose to fight Kessler. If he fights Kessler and beats him he can set up a future fight with one of the best Kelly Pavlik. I'll really like to see a Pavlik vs Wright fight and the only way it's going to happen is if Wrigth moves up in weight and challenges Kessler to set up a future fight with undefeated middle weight champion.

  8. If he wants to fight Pavlik he should chase Felix Sturm or Aurthur Abraham down and get one of their belts because Pavlik's main goal is unification and he will go after anyone who holds the other two belts. If he can drop down in weight -- more power to him. Vernon Forrest would be a great fight for him and if he secures a belt in that division Cory Spinks is trying to be the first boxer to unify the belts at welterweight and light middleweight so that would be another decent name for him.

Being the avoided fighter he is I think he should secure a fight somewhere as soon as he can before ring rust starts to get the best of him.

  9. I don't know that Winky can make 154 comfortably, if he can he should take on Forrest - he need to show that he can beat a top fighter before he goes and calls out Pavlik, Calzaghe, etc. (I think he could beat all those guys, but to have a legit shot at making the fight), remember he is 0-1-1 over the past 2 years.

Everyone knows he has great skill and defensive ability, and against Hopkins he showed he can be effective when being aggresive - I think most true boxing fans are rooting for Winky to fight again.  I'd love to see him take on Veron Forrest, I think it would be a better fight than it appears to be on paper - if he wins that he could get anoth two big fights before calling it a day.  He should just be trying to take more fights.
