and no one around? I went to the store manager but she didn't do much of anything. They eventually found the owner but nothing changed. I kept an eye on the dog because he or she was panting pretty heavily. I thought of calling the police or animal control but it seemed like it would take them too long to get there. What is the proper thing to do?

  1. Dial 911 and tell the police immediately.

    It is against the law.

  2. Call the police first and then animal control. A friend of mine works for the sheriff's department, he said if police are called for children being locked in hot vehicles (in SC it's against the law and people are being caught left and right after new legislation was passed) the same can go for animals. Most cops are animal lovers too so they an at least scare the c**p out of the pereson or get animal control involved to the point of checking the person's home too, to make sure the animal is cared for properly. If this is a problem the animal can be removed for the person's home. If your local sheriff's department or city police won't help, all you can really do is pray animal control is nearby and still open for the day.

  3. Did you talk to the owner?

I think calling the police / animal agencies is a good idea. Someone left their baby in their car while they were shopping... and I think they're getting trialed now or something.

Animal agencies usually don't act that quickly

  4. I would have called the pound or humane society.

  5. I would have called the police...but I live in a smaller city so it would not take them very long to respond...if you live in a big city you could have called animal police/control...if it bothered you that much you could have set off the car alarm if it had one to get the owners attention....but everything as a reaction and it is not always a good one.

  6. Find out if its against the law where you live.

Animal control /911 they are the only ones that can issue citations.

    Thats a real shame...

People like that will also leave their children in hot cars also...
