  1. It all depends on the horse. If he's an easy keeper, an ample amount of hay could be fine. If he's a hard keeper, supplementing his diet with grain would be needed. Most horses fall in the middle, with hay and a bit of grain. One lesson stable I was at fed their horses hay three times a day and no grain, and all the horses kept their weight fine. So it all depends on the horse. As far as supplement to go with hay and grain, most are not needed. Grains are designed to be balanced and do not need anything else added. If feeding just hay, you might need some supplements. You could find out by having your hay's nutrients tested.

  2. It would totally depend o the age of the horse, the condition, etc.  Let the condition and age of the horse dictate what he eats and what supplements that he gets.  There is no pat answer to that question unless you furnish more information on the horse.

  3. It depends on how much he is being worked. T&A hay and 12% sweet feed is usually pretty balanced. It also depends on how old the horse is. Older horses are hard to keep weight on sometimes, so they need supplements.

  4. Well it depends on the age, weight, problems ( arthritis exc. )

I know that when I had a schooling horse that was working about 4 to 5 days a week I would feed A compleate feed with Flax and oil. I also fed vitamins. but its prefrence.  and if the horse has arthritis or joint issues I would also feed Glucosamine.

  5. Grain, get a nutritionist or someone eperienced
