It was once a country plagued with high unemployment, high inflation and slow growth. In just the past ten years Ireland has undergone a great economic transformation.

  16. People are very relaxed about a lot of things, and don't really get into a tizz about celebrities coming to town, but at the same time are very protective of celebrities that live locally (just trying asking the locals of West Cork exactly where Jeremy Irons the actor lives, they'll send you on a wild-goose chase).

Don't ever discuss the history/politics of Ireland with an Irish person. You never know what they might tell you. And if you decide to be bolshy about the history of what they - we - perceive as the history of our country and not yours, well .... depending on where you are, you could either have your car keyed or your kneecaps removed. Some things are much better left well alone.
