What shows are suitable for an 8 year old in Las Vegas?

I'm taking my grandson to Vegas for a much needed vacation. He needs to get away from here, where his step father has been emotionally abusing him for 3 years, to somewhere exciting. I plan to focus the whole vacation on him. And yes, I know you think Disneyland would be better, but he has friends who went there and didn't enjoy themselves. And, his cousins get to go to Vegas every spring with their parents because they have a timeshare.

  1. Here are my eight choices, (several repeats from earlier comments).

Wet and Wild has shut down so that's not an option.

    ------------------------

    Excaliber: Tournament of the Kings

Greek Isles: World's Greatest Magic Show

Harrah's: The Mac King Comedy Magic Show

Las Vegas Hilton: Laugh Out Loud with The Scintas

Luxor Hotel: The Ron Lucas Show

Miracle Mile Shops: Comedy Pet Theater

    Planet Hollywood: Stomp Out Loud

Treasure Island: Mystere by Cirque Du Soleil

    --------------

I don't think an 8 year would like Mama Mia! If you go to Mystere, get there early to enjoy the clown.

  2. I wonder if your grandson is mature enough for any of the Vegas shows.  I am a mother of four, and a former Vegas resident.  I can't think of any  shows I would have wanted to take my children.  My best suggestion is to see what the Thomas & Mack or Cox Pavilion is having. Both Venues close to the strip.  They are the only places I can think of that would have family shows in Vegas. You can always check out Circus Circus, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, and Secret Garden/Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage.  These distractions will only be for a few hours. If his cousins visit Vegas, I can only guess they would be bored, too.

It is noble that you want to take your grandson out of a bad situation, but Vegas in not the right place.  Have you been to San Diego? SaN Diego is more laid back than Orange County and Seaworld and Legoland are nearby.  Both of these parks are smaller and less intimidating than Disneyland.

  3. Take him to see the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur. It is a great dinner show. Horses, jousting matches and you get a dinner that you have to eat with your hands .. can't use a fork or knife. He will get a kick out of that. They tell you to yell, scream and bang on the table to cheer your knight on to win. Full of lots of energy and tons of fun. It is a great show and for about 50 bucks you even get a dinner.

  4. Gregory Popoviches Comedy Pet Theatre is a great show for all ages http://www.bestofvegas.com/Shows-Tickets...

    Have Fun!

  5. I agree with pretty much everyone else.  As for magic shows, my first choice would be Extreme Magic by Dirk Arthur.  It's the one that uses tigers in the tricks.  Not only is it kid friendly, he picks a kid volunteer from the audience to be part of the show.  I also agree with Mac King Comedy Magic for the same reason.  Pretty much any other magic show (like David Copperfield) isn't good for kids.

  6. Circus Circus.  Las Vegas is definitely not a town for children.

  7. David Copperfield is a great show to see for an 8 yr. old. He performs in the Hollywood theatre at the MGM Grand. I saw him before, and his tricks are amazing.

  8. Hi Judy, I hope you and your grandson can have  great trip and that he really enjoys it.

As others have said Mystere he will love and also magic shows there are several magic shows in the day that are really good value that he (and you) will love.

Whilst the shows on this link may not be suitabel click on the linkand it will take you to goldtart who offer evry cheap tickets

  9. Ice, Direct from Russia at the Riveria.  No nudity and beautiful skating in the spirit of Cirque du Soleil

The Cirque shows (but not Zumanity)

    Legends in Concert

Magic shows (not all, tho, Penn and Teller-NO WAY)

But the one I'd recommend most highly is the Tournament of Kings dinner show at Excalibur.

There are four sections, one for each knight and you will be seated in one of them.  You will root for that knight.  Dinner is game hen, twice baked potato, soup in a cup.  No silverware is used because you eat with your hands like in King Arthur's day.  There is real jousting and it's just a great fun time for the entire family.  I've seen the show several times. Wonderful.

  10. Cirque De Soleil and The Blue Man Group come to mind but since one of Las Vegas' major goals is to be more family friendly, most shows are planned accordingly.  Even showgirl shows are family friendly nowadays with the illusion of nakedness even though they aren't really.

I would suggest you spend sometime at the water park (I believe it's Wet N' Wild) if it's still in operation (it's been a few years since I've been there and some time at Circus Circus in the arcade.

There are also many places that offer kid friendly things to do so check out http://www.vegas.com/attractions/kids.ht... for more information.

Other than that, I think your grandson will have fun regardless of what you do with him.......

Good luck finding something to keep him happy and happy travels!

  11. There are lots of kids friendly shows in Las Vegas. Here is a list of them. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/kids-fren...
