Question:

What side dish to make?

My in-laws are having a potluck party. We're each bringing our own 'meat' to grill, then bringing a potluck side dish. What the heck should I make? I want to make a good impression, but I dont want to bring ANOTHER potato salad or ANOTHER cole slaw. The problem is I dont know what everyone else is bringing. Is there something a little less traditional that I can make thats sure to be a big hit? I have a bread maker, a slow cooker....so if I can use either of those...or just cook something! LOL....so any suggestions?

  1. Mac and cheese

    What u need:

    Noodles:duh

    6 slices of american cheese

    salt

    pepper

and oven pan like the rectangle ones

    Directions:

    Cook the noodles

Pour some milk, flour, and salt in a circular pan on medium heat

add cheese one at a time but slowly mix the last piece up before the next one, add ground pepper into the mixture when done bout 10 minutes, por the mixture onto the noodles making sure that they are almost submerged, then put in over at 350 and wait an hour. goes good with steak, chicken, and fried fish!

  2. i cook ALL the time!

you should totally bring jalapeno poppers!

all you do is buy about 15-20 jalapeno's, take out ALL seeds.

cut down the middle long ways.

    fill them with cream cheese.

wrap a piece of bacon around it

stick a toothpick in the middle to hold the bacon around it

    cook at 325 degrees.

    cooks for about 35-45 minutes.

    they're reallllllly good. and addicting.

  3. Well, one thing to do would be to find out what everyone else is bringing. Once you know that, then you can plan accordingly. If you are grilling, I would suggest bringing some veggies to grill as a side. Maybe some asparagus, some eggplant, some zucchini, some yellow squash and some red onions. Make a marinade with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. Marinate your veggies for at least 2 hours, then grill. Great side dish to grilled meat. Hope your potluck goes well. Happy cooking!

  4. i must say, i hate going to family gatherings being a vegetarian and them not having anything there for me....my opinion might be a little bias because of that but whatev,

    pasta salad my dearrr!

    or a taco dip. yum

my sister made this stuff the other day with cream cheese, taco seasoning, -mixed, and on top shredded lettuce and onions and salsa (like a taco dip) it was OFF THE CHAINNNN! (:

  5. OK, you have a bread maker, perfect.  Do a batch of French bread on the dough setting with a lot of dried basil, oregano, and garlic powder.  When that's done, flatten it out and spread it with pesto, cheddar, pepperoni, pickled jalapenos, feta, and whatever else.  Roll it up and bake it for stuffed bread.  (It was a killer at a Christmas party last year!)

Another good one is to boil 1 cup orzo, chop up half a pkg. of fresh spinach, drain orzo, toss with the spinach, toss in 1 can garbanzos, some toasted pine nuts, a little can of sliced black olives, and a lemon vinaigrette.  And crumbled feta and some chopped cilantro or parsley.  Seriously, it's done in 20 minutes.

    Lemon vinaigrette:

    1/3 cup olive oil

    Juice of 2 lemons

Zest of 1 of the lemons

    Big Tbsp. minced garlic

Big pinches of kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, and dried oregano

    Shake it all up.

  6. make "Mimosa Salad" you can find recipe for it at www.internationalcookingportal.com ...great taste, easy to cook, good look

  7. mac & cheese oven bake, yummo, its works!!

  8. I have found a simple recipe that works.  All get blended together and put in the Fridge overnight to get a great flavor. This is a guestament recipe so add or subtract ingredients to your liking.

    - Get a big bowl

    - Take 6 Jona Gold, Gala or 6 apples of choice and cut into little cubes/wedges.

    - Put Lemon juice or Lime juice over the apples so they don't turn brown

    - Then take about a half cup to 3/4 cup of walnuts or pecans pieces and put them with the apples

    - Take about 1 to 1. 5 cups of red grapes and 1 to 1.5 cups green grapes (Seedless) and cut them in half and add to the bowl

    - Take 1 cup of either dried raisens of choice or dried cranberries and add to the bowl

    - then take about 1/2 cup of Miracle whip  and blend all the ingredients together

    - Cover the bowl and put in the fridge overnight.  The longer it sits the better as the flavors will meld together.

    - Serve as you would a normal salad.  Wins people over everytime!

  9. Did you think about making an awesome dessert? That wouldn't be same as everyone else. I hope.

  10. Here is your answer...

    The Ultimate 7-Layer Dip

1 can 16 oz. Refried Beans

    1 Tbsp. Taco Seasoning Mix

1 cup Thick 'N Chunky Salsa

    Sour Cream

    1 cup Shredded Lettuce

    1 cup Shredded Cheese

    1/2 cup Chopped Green Onions

2 Tbsp. Sliced Pitted Ripe Olives

Mix beans and seasoning mix. Spread onto bottom of 9-inch pie plate.

Layer remaining ingredients over bean mixture. Refrigerate.

Serve with tortilla chips. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

~I got this recipe off of a can of Taco Bell Refried Beans. My older sister makes this dish and it is always a big hit with everyone.

Another dish I just tried that my older sister made that was really good was ... well it's not really a dish, more like an appetizer. Spread cream cheese in the bottom of a baking dish and then top with salsa. It makes a really yummy dip for tortilla chips. And I really never liked cream cheese. This is delicious!

Oh, I almost forgot, one of my most favorite dishes ever. My little cousin has been doing this cake for years since she was pretty young. It is so easy and oh my gosh...so delicious.

~Dump Cake~ (You just dump the ingredients in...it is so easy)

    INGREDIENTS

1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling

1 (15 ounce) can crushed pineapple

1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix

    8 ounces chopped walnuts (optional)

    1/2 cup butter

    DIRECTIONS

In a 9x13 inch pan mix cherries and pineapple. Sprinkle dry cake mix over pineapple, and cherry mixture stir until just combined. Then sprinkle walnuts over top (if desired). Drizzle top with melted butter or margarine.

Bake in a 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 35 or 40 minutes or until golden brown. Best if served with vanilla ice cream! This one is a big hit with everyone!!!!

    I hope I helped!

  11. Think of something that you are uniquely good at making, one of your specialties.

  12. Everybody is going to bring a pasta or potato salad most likely, so how about something different?  Here are some ideas:

    1.  Baked beans with bacon and brown sugar, slow cooked

    2.  Hot artichoke and crab dip with blue corn tortilla chips

    3.  Asian Chicken Salad (with cabbage, chopped green onion, sesame seeds, ramen noodles, cooked chicken, sesame seed dressing.)

    4.  Antipasta Pasta Salad:   1 box rotelle, cooked according to package directions; 1 bunch chopped green onion; 1 4 oz container feta cheese; 1 chub dry salami, cut into cubes; 1 can sliced black olives; 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped; 1 bottle Berensteins Cheese Fantastico Dressing.  Mix and chill overnight.

    5.  Easy Banana Cake:  1 yellow cake mix with eggs and oil for mixing; 3 ripe bananas, mashed; 1/2 cup chopped candied walnuts; 3 T cream cheese, softened; 1 T butter, softened; 1 cup powdered sugar; 3 T milkand 1 tsp vanilla.  Mix cake according to package directions and add mashed bananas.  Mix well and fold in chopped candied walnuts.  Spoon into prepared bundt pan and bake until cooked thru and golden.  When cool, spoon glaze made of cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla over top.  Let is run down sides.  Sprinkle with more chopped candied walnuts.

  13. Try this. Get a packet of savoury rice (one where you have to add water and boil) and cook to the packet instructions. Pour it in a dish and then mix a tub of cottage cheese with 2 beaten eggs and season. Pour this topping over the rice and bake in the oven for about 30 mins or until topping is browned. It's like a low fat quiche. When it cools turn it out and cut into pieces. It's perfect finger food or a side dish.
