What similar characteristics and behavior as well as biological make up do chimps and human share?

Why are they considered as our closest relative?

Most of our genes are close to our genes. Even in direct observation, you can see the similarity if you have a good imagination.

a lot of the social structure characteristics that we humans have are also found in chimps such as close family ties. biologically only one amino acid in our DNA makes chimps different from us. they also have 47 chromosomes while we have 46 because two of the chromosomes in chimps is is merged into one in humans. this is the latest research.

The only thing that Chimps and Humans share is the planet.

Both are intelligent (more or less).  Both walk upright (more or less).  Both create tools & use them.  Both live in groups.  Both raise their young.  Both can be taught (more or less).  Both fight.  Both seek sexual gratification.  The degree of difference is not very great and shows up in DNA & chromosomes which makes stem cell research a little scary.  I  have no idea what the research scientists are likely to create next.  More fascinating than science fiction or science fantasy.
