For me, it's Damien Rice, and his blisteringly sincere delivery a raw lyrics. I mean, songs like "Accidental Babies" and "The Blower's Daughter" where his voice quivers and shakes with each crescendo and instrument are rather unsettling.

What about you? If there's not one artist, then just say the single song that impacts you heaviest.

  1. Peter Gabriel...song..."Solsbury Hill". It reminds me of my daughter's 24 year old boyfriend who died...so sad..

"Climbing up Solsbury Hill, I could see the city lights..................."

  2. america by simon and garfunkle does it for me. probably because I've always wanted to just pack up and go anywhere a bus or train would take me.

  3. Vocally, it's early R.E.M. (Pre-1988).  Michael Stipe's voice sends shivers down my back.

But for overall emotion, it's Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar playing.  His singing is mediocre, but you can feel the 'guts' in his guitar playing.  His version of Hendrix' "Little Wing" still gets me, and I've heard it at least a thousand times!

  4. Blue October. I adore them to no end. They are incredibly sincere, emotional, and sing about topics a lot of people feel at heart, but never want to express to the public. I love the fact that Blue October can do it for them.

I really am in love with so many of their songs, but a few at the top are, "Hate Me," "Into the Ocean," "Turn to Gray," "Sorry Hearts," "Clumsy Card House," and "Mr. Blue's Menu."

  5. The song "Four Becomes One" by Hawthorne Heights really gets me going. The lyrics are deep and then at the end they do a spoken part saying [had I known it was the last time i'd see you] "I would've said Goodnight, I would've said I love you, I would've said goodbye" makes me cry everytime..

  6. Pierce The Veil - Chemical Kids & Mechanical Brides

Pierce The Veil - Currents Convulsive

Pierce The Veil - Yeah Boy And Doll Face

Pierce The Veil - I'd Rather Die Than Be Famous

Pierce The Veil - The Cheap Bouquet

Pierce The Veil - Falling Asleep On A Stranger

Pierce The Veil - She Sings In The Morning

Pierce The Veil - The Balcony Scene

    Pierce The Veil - Drella

Pierce The Veil - Diamonds And Why Men Buy Them

    Pierce The Veil - Wonderless

    Chiodos - Lexington

Chiodos - Bulls Make Money Bears Make Money Pigs Get Slaughtered

August Burns Red - Truth Of A Liar

...So many more that I can't name them all. But Pierce The Veil always packs that emotional wallop.

  7. "Dinah Washington with i don't hurt no more

  8. I dont know if you're a country fan, but some of Keith Urban's song have so much emotion behind them, that you can just feel it, and there's no question about what he was feeling when he wrote it. For example, here's his live version of "You'll Think of Me" with an extra verse added. It's a great example:

Also, his song "Stupid Boy", the ALBUM version with the extra verse that's not in the radio edit does it to me everytime. Because I was in an abusive relationship that I finally discovered I was strong enough to move on from. So that carries a lot of meaning for me.

  10. Well songs from The Naked Brothers Band does to me.

  11. Joni Mitchell usually does the trick for me. The song "River" really gets me when she's talking about how it's almost Christmas and all she wishes is that she could skate away from the fuss everyone's making.

Rufus Wainwright does it too. "Pretty Things" packs such an emotional punch for me. "From where you are to where I am now is it's own galaxy."

  12. Jerry Garcia makes me cry...especially Dark Star or China Doll.
