  1. How DEEP? -- for a nice free star chart try

or download and install the free  Cartes du Ciel for more objects and more stars---

  2. kstars, which comes with Linux, can print sky maps down to 12th magnitude.  This limit comes from the hipparcos satellite data, which is freely available to the public.  So several other programs have this same limit.  I do not print them at all, but use a Palm pilot program called Planetarium (shareware - about $25), and simply look up what i want out in the field.  But i have also used a laptop with kstars at the telescope.

Celestia, and stellarium are two other excellent free and cross platform planetarium programs.
