  1. What kind of medical information are you looking for? If you are looking for a site to explain illness symptoms, try webmd.com (it isn't used really by doctors/nurses because they should already know the majority of this information). If you are talking about looking up the latest advancements in science/medicine, these kinds of journal articles can be found in pubmed.gov. If you are looking for something else, please specify. Keep in mind that many of the sites that doctors/nurses use are probably restricted and not available for public use.

  3. I would suggest this site for a good place to start:

    http://www.emedicine.com/

    It's free, well-referenced, and summarizes a broad selection of topics, including pediatric info. Also, the articles are updated fairly frequently.

    However, it's written for someone with a background in the medical profession, most lay folks would have a hard time getting into it.
