  1. if you're looking for gas milage... go wtih a scooter... fi you're looking to add elegance to the picture, look into getting a honda rebel.

and where the h**l do you get 30 mpg is good for a bike? that'd be like saying a  muscle car that got 9 mpg IS good (not was)

  2. It's amazing how people answer questions like this.  They will always recommend what -they- want.

You left out some important information.  You did mention that you are thinking mostly about transportation, which means you don't want a sportbike.  They are deadly serious single purpose machines, they are simply not for commuting by bike to save gas.  It would be like buying a Ferrari for driving through your neighborhood to the grocery store.  A Ferrari is a great car but not for that purpose.

But what is your commute like?  Long trip on the freeway?  Secondary roads?  Ten miles of city streets?  It makes a difference.

Starting from the bottom up.  For just in the city a scooter is really your best bet.  A 50cc scooter, the biggest drawback is that it doesn't go faster than 35 mph.  But if you never need to go faster, this is what you want.  These things get like 150 mpg and are extremely easy to ride, and so mechanically simple that they won't give you much trouble.

For trips that include short hops on the freeway (say 10-15 mi.) a small bike, a 250 or 350 would be sufficient.   These bikes will go 65mph but just barely.  If you are riding between cities on a stretch of interstate where everyone is going 75, you will have some work to stay out of their way.  But for in a metropolitan area they're great.  Very light, relatively easy to manage.

If you're going longer or faster, you want something more like 500-650cc.  This is almost a 'touring' bike, one you can take for an extended cruise.

Your weight is not a problem--just about any of these bikes will carry two normal-sized people so they sure can carry you & some stuff.  Your height might be a problem, though.  All bikes have a different relationship between seat, handlebars and footpegs.  Some of them you would find a little cramped.  You can really tell a lot just by sitting on a bike, and most people or dealers would be happy to let you sit on them.  Put the bike on the centerstand, if possible, and sit with your feet on the pegs, then think to yourself 'Could I sit like this for two hours?'   Of course you should also be able to sit on the bike with your feet flat on the ground, that's very important, but at 6'2" that won't be your problem.

  3. Kawasaki Ninja 250R.  Gets around 70 mpg, 0-60 in under 5 seconds, 109 mph, top speed.

  4. I'm 6'4 and about 200 lbs and have a KLR 650. It was my first street bike and it's great for backroad and city riding. On the highway it doesn't excel though and I don't really feel comfortable on it over 75 mph or so. It has enough power that I can accelerate quickly when needed, but it isn't dangerously powerful.

Don't get a ninja 250. It's way too small for you.

Also, I'm assuming you're new to riding so don't listen to that guy who said to get an R1. That bike is heavy and way too powerful for a new rider.

If you're interested in sport bikes, look at the ninja 500. It's a lot more managable than a supersport but still has some kick and looks pretty good. If you like cruisers, look at any of the japanese 650s or 750s or a harley sportster.

  5. Look into a Honda VLX, or AERO 750.  you're a little too big for a Rebel, and may be pushing it on a VLX 600.  I'm 6'2" 200, and a VLX gets me around town well enough, but lacks any highway speed while.

  6. Yeah..! Go 4 Royal enfield..

And make a gas conversion on it ..

Gas conversion charge is around 45$

  7. You are Harley sized.  Unless you are Mr Olympia, your gut won't fit on anything else.

  8. if ur looking new i would say a yamaha R1, it gets about 33 miles to the galon, and thats pretty amazing, but the bike will run u 11k brand new! but if ur looking old probably anything, im not really good with old bikes, but the newer u get the better the gas mileage! but sport bikes are deffinetly the way to go!

  9. crotch rocket FTW

  10. Look at the Kymco Venox and Hyosung GV250 they are both good motorcycles that get over 60mpg. Easy to look at water cooled not old school like a rebel,They  have 2 year warranty and are priced right.
